The Department of Otolaryngology is seeking a CO  Clinical Nurse Manager  the Clinical Nurse Manager collaborates with the Medical Director and Clinic Supervisor in a Triad leadership model to provide clinical leadership aimed at achieving clinic, departmental, and institutional objectives in a rapidly evolving environment. This role promotes innovation and excellence in managing clinical services, and team performance. Leads initiatives to optimize clinical workflows, staff training/ education and development. In partnership with the Clinic Supervisor, the Nurse Manager provides oversight to the clinical staff (RNs/ CMAs) in three of the satellite locations—Greenspring, White Marsh and Towson. Applies advanced knowledge of clinical practice, unit operations, quality and safety, and professional development to bridge clinical practice, enhance quality and safety, and build staff competence. Develop policies and procedures related to clinical support and nursing work within each clinical site.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities Clinical Operations (70%) Responsible for the managing of day-to-day clinical operations of Otolaryngology at Greenspring, Towson, and White Marsh locations. Assures that the clinics are appropriately staffed to meet the operational needs.Works with Medical Director and physician leadership to establish policies and procedures where changes are needed to improve workflows.Resolves scheduling conflicts, monitors room utilization, and maintains clinic patient flow at each clinic location.Provides monthly ambulatory clinic practice reports, by site, provider and sub-specialty, to Divisional Leadership.Reports to include access, volumes, no-show rates, provider cancellations and other selected metrics to assess outpatient activity by provider compared to prior fiscal year.Monitor Patient Satisfaction for the outpatient clinic practices and review strengths and opportunities for providers and clinical staff.Ensure that the ambulatory clinic sites comply with the standards or requirements of The Joint Commission, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and Environmental of Care.Work with the JHH Regulatory Affairs Office, JHHS Compliance Office, JHU CPA, and Office of Billing Quality Assurance as needed to clarify and address requirements.Participate in the implementation of system capabilities to support registration, scheduling, billing, medical records, and communication to referring physicians.Monitors monthly expenditure statements for budgets and prepares documents required to maintain balanced accounts for review and approval by the Assistant Administrator. Assists in the development of the annual clinical operating budget.Monitors inventory and supply management for the clinic.Review safety data metrics and incident reports to create an action plan.Attends JHM Practice Management Meetings each month. Participates in other JHM work groups and/or committees as related to clinic operations.Organize and lead the clinical staff, including developing and maintaining policies, standard operating procedures, and education materials.Clinical Staff Oversight – (15%) Directly supervise medical assistants and RN's. This includes participating in the recruitment of staff, ensuring the most up-to-date training is provided, performance management, time and attendance and disciplinary management.Manage the CMA float pool, evaluate staffing levels and coordinate distribution of float CMAs, as necessary, across clinical sites.Coordinate orientation of newly hired CMAs; educate, train, and administer technician skills testing.Oversee certification and recertification for all CMAs.Oversee clinical competencies for clinical staff across the Greenspring, Towson, and White Marsh clinics.In partnership with the clinic supervisor conducts monthly administrative staff meetings to keep the staff informed about any changes.Promote growth and development of staff to help create a positive culture.Supervise and set standards for daily productivity. Work with the Medical Director to communicate, manage and develop policies and procedures for the clinical operation. Respond to patient and employee suggestions and complaints, in conjunction with the Medical Director.Identify initial and ongoing educational needs of nursing staff utilizing a variety of teaching strategies, the nursing process, and principles of adult learning.In collaboration with other leaders, facilitate nursing staff competencies, including clinical practice standards, regulatory requirements, and integration of new equipment and technology.Partner in development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical policies and procedures.Participate in departmental, unit, and institutional committees.Create a climate that fosters compassionate care, innovation, engagement, and teamwork.Clinical Compliance (15%) In partnership with Clinical Supervisor, ensure that all staff and providers have fulfilled requirements set forth by external regulatory agencies or internal regulatory bodies.Ensures that the clinic complies with the environmental standards or requirements of regulatory agencies and internal audit groups.Collaborates with HEIC for scheduled environmental rounds. Responds to any noted deficiencies.Appoints Infection Control and Environment of Care Safety Auditors to ensure rounds are completed and reported.Educate providers and clinic staff regarding third party payer requirements, managed care contracts, and billing/documentation requirements.Reports all HERO incidents according to JHM protocol and lead an internal review of the incident with Divisional leadership. Implement all required actions as identified by the HERO review.Ensures all HIPPA violations are reported according to JHM protocol.Completes the Hand Hygiene reporting requirements.Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Collaborate with administration and finance to develop budgets; evaluate and manage human and material resource utilization. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field.
Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.Minimum of three years clinical nursing experience. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Nursing or business administration preferred.Experience with Otolaryngology is a plus.
Knowledge of EPIC and project management skills
Understanding of changing reimbursement policies and third-party reimbursement.Previous supervisory experience.
Related master's degree may be considered in lieu of some experience.Prior supervisory experience may substitute for up to two years of required nursing experience.Classified Title: Clinical Nurse Manager

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
