DPP is seeking a Mainframe Developer for an opportunity in Columbia, SC.
Work arrangement:
Hybrid, partial onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and as needed.
W2 position; 12 months
Summary:
Perform all phases of applications systems analysis and design. Analyze systems specifications and develop applications to support information systems processes.
Prepare detailed specifications from which complex programs will be written.
Design, code, test, debug, document and maintain these programs.
Formulates scope and objectives through research to develop or modify complex systems.
Evaluate interrelationships between systems, testing modified programs, and analyzing production systems to recommend enhancements. The role includes work with mainframe and/or distributed technologies.
Ensure more junior team members understand business requirements and delivering applications on time.
Exposure to large systems with a financial institution or insurance company (highly preferred but not required).
Previous Client experience is a plus.

Job/class description:
Ensure team members understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions, organizational standards are maintained, and applications are delivered according to project timeliness. Provide expert system knowledge, perform research, attend meetings, and review documents.
Maintain and modify programs according to specifications. Code, compile, and implement application software that is delivered on time and within budget. Evaluate basic interrelationships in immediate programming area to determine how changes in one program will affect another related area.
Test modified programs, create necessary test files and data, verify logic, debug, and write relevant documentation.
Analyze production systems, recommend systems enhancements, provide instruction to production support team. Research customer issues and determine appropriate resolutions. Coordinate implementation of modifications or enhancements.
Analyze and evaluate existing or proposed systems. Develop functional design and technical specifications, concept diagrams, workflow diagrams and related procedures to process data using appropriate systems environment/platform. Document programs/procedures.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Host (core) mainframe development experience (2 years of experience minimum)
COBOL, DB2, JCL, APS (COBOL Code Generator), IMS
Strong understanding of applications/development, quality assurance and integration methodologies, concepts and facilities in a mainframe, midrange, and/or PC/LAN environment.
Strong analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrates logical abstract thinking and assimilating/adhering to project goals and deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Able to work well under pressure and as part of a team.
Strong knowledge of interpersonal skills/team building.
Familiar with project management concepts.
Pays attention to detail.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, clients, vendors, etc.
Strong knowledge of relevant operating systems, programming languages, and development tools and their usage in the company.

This is a Commercial Claims team, providing healthcare claims adjudication and settlement systems. The systems process a variety of healthcare claim types from entry the claims through reporting. They modify and update these systems through large, high-profile projects that can span from six months to multiple years.
Required education/equivalencies:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other job-related degree;
OR, Associates degree in CS, IT, or other job-related degree plus 2 years of work-related experience;
OR, 4 years job-related work experience (total 8 years without a degree).
