Job Summary: LANL, Livermore and Savannah River are Department of Energy sites with numerous operating nuclear facilities and nuclear facility construction projects under way supporting both waste operations and weapons production. The Cognizant System Engineer is responsible for operability of nuclear safety systems to include reliability, maintenance, and operability of the assigned system. There is a formal qualification process to be a CSE. The position involves working with other engineers, operations, maintenance technicians and managers in an engineering and/or construction environment.
Responsibilities: Work with design teams in integrating strong system engineering practices in the design evolution of:Requirements development and management.Configuration management/change control.Interface and configuration model management.Deliverables planning and management.Review of engineering and manufacturing deliverables (documents, drawings, etc.), procedures, etc.Support development and documentation of engineering plans, procedures, deliverables, processes, and workflows.Execution and acceptance of maintenance and testing.Development and maintenance of System Design Descriptions and Technical Baselines.Coordinate preparations for readiness/design reviews.Required Skills: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study and 5 to 7+ years of relevant experience.Solid understanding of system engineering including requirements management, configuration management, interface control, specification development, and procedure development.Must be a detail-oriented self-starter, able to work independently and in a team environment.Must work well with a diverse spectrum of personnel (people/soft skillset).Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate with members of the organization at all levels and with suppliers.Must have effective problem solving, time management, and organizational skills.Ability to work fluently with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).Deliver mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service.
