Job Description
The Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Virginia Tech seeks applications for a full-time, academic year, non-tenure-track Collegiate Faculty who will primarily contribute to the ECE undergraduate program. We are seeking candidates motivated to contribute to a collegial and inclusive department with a strong tradition in teaching and research.

This Collegiate Faculty position will be at the associate or full professor level with a 5, or 7-year renewable contract, respectively. Collegiate faculty have the following responsibilities: mentor graduate students, teach courses, support graduate research, and contribute to the overall development and assessment of academic programs. Collegiate faculty are expected to participate in department, college, and university service, and committee work, and other duties as assigned. Collegiate faculty members may conduct research on the scholarship of teaching and learning related to their field and/or on disciplinary topics in their field and present their findings in professional venues, but there are no expectations for an extensive research program as is typical of tenure-track faculty appointments. Applicants with expertise in the areas of Power Systems, Electric Machines, and Power Electronics are of particular interest, but all technical areas will be considered. Individuals with relevant industry experience are encouraged to apply. Membership in our nationally recognized Power and Energy Center (PEC) and/or Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES) is available for qualified individuals. This position is based in Blacksburg, Virginia.

The Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers B.S., M.Eng., M.S., and Ph.D. degree programs in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering with a current enrollment of approximately 1,100 undergraduate and 650 graduate students. The department has 76 full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members and 20 non-tenure-track faculty located in two primary locations, which are the Blacksburg Campus and the Greater Washington, DC area including the new VT Innovation Campus in Alexandria, Virginia. Annual research expenditures exceed $56M. Recognition of faculty accomplishments includes 4 members of the National Academy of Engineering, 30 Fellows of the IEEE, and various fellows of other professional societies, 27 current and prior NSF CAREER awardees, and 4 DoD Young Investigators. The latest Global Universities ranking by U.S. News & World Report (USN&WR) places our department at #2 nationally in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering category. The department has some of the nation's best programs in the areas of fiber optics and photonics, space science and remote sensing, wireless communications and networking, power electronics, power systems, autonomous systems, embedded systems, and computational biology. Required Qualifications
A PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a closely related field completed prior to employment; effective communication skills; previous teaching experience in ECE or a related field; a strong record of academic accomplishments; a proven ability to work collaboratively; experience with and commitment to interdisciplinary research and instruction and a willingness to cross disciplinary boundaries to address complex technical and societal challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
Interest or experience working effectively with a diverse student population; relevant industrial experience and academic experience teaching in the technical areas of Power Systems, Electric Machines, Power Electronics; willingness and ability to work in a high-tech environment, such as online instruction and distance learning; experience working in academia and collaborating with industry; experience working with industry to facilitate student project funding.
