Job Summary The DNR is seeking to fill one (1) Communications and Content Creation Specialist position at our Central Office location in Saint Paul, MN.
This position exists to help implement communications strategies and projects for the agency through the development of communications deliverables. This includes supporting the vision and strategic planning work of key communications staff (e.g., communications director, assistant communications director, social media coordinator, media relations specialist, etc.), writing and editing content (e.g., newsletters, news releases, social media posts, video/radio scripts, website content, internal emails, intranet and web content, blog posts, etc.), administrative execution of communications workflows (e.g., news release process, social media calendar, paid media processing, etc.), and other key tasks to effectively facilitate the creation and flow of content from idea to publication. This position will work alongside members of the media unit and social media team to ensure quality, engaging, and plain language content for the agency.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Serve as content creator for the Office of Communications and Outreach in support of divisional, regional, and agency-wide communications objectives. Assist communications team in executing strategic communications work. Provide administrative support to communications team. Special projects as assigned to support the objectives and efficiency of the Office of Communication and Outreach. This position has a flexible work arrangement and may be eligible to telework on a full or part-time basis which is subject to change. If approved, the employee would be required to complete a telework agreement.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Two (2) years of paraprofessional experience OR one (1) year of professional experience with demonstrated knowledge of utilizing basic communications, journalistic, marketing, and social media principles. A bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, social media, journalism, or closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience; an associate's degree may substitute for six (6) months of experience. Comprehensive knowledge of journalistic principles, practices, and techniques as they relate to the planning, development, creation and implementing of communications assets. Ability to create and suggest creative and engaging social media, web, and other content. Demonstrated ability to write and edit internal emails, articles, blogs, scripts for video, social media posts, and radio spots. Demonstrated writing, editing, and listening skills sufficient to effectively communicate complex, error free information to a wide variety of audiences. Ability to communicate the work of the DNR to internal and external audiences. Knowledge of marketing/PR, social media, and web best practices. Preferred Qualifications A portfolio that demonstrated versatility across a number of communications channels, including social media and traditional media.
Previous experience within a newsroom or a creative, media, or PR agency.
Knowledge of State policies, procedures, and practices in the areas of information and data practices.
Demonstrated knowledge of plain language principles.
Demonstrated ability using photo, video, and audio editing tools.
Interest and enthusiasm for the content and work sufficient to be able to navigate the content of the agency.
Ability to research content related to the work of the DNR in partnership with Subject Matter Experts.
