The Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) is seeking an outgoing Community Outreach Coordinator to support AWLA's Community Programs.
This part time position is grant funded through June of 2025 and may be extended pending grant renewal.
Anchored in the One Health model, this public facing position is responsible for, but not limited to, coordinating and attending offsite community outreach programs and clinics serving low-income communities in Arlington County.
Spanish is predominantly used at offsite events.
Additional duties include survey data collection and analysis as well as administrative assignments that directly support the program.Estimated end date: through June 2025Part time (20 hours a week)Hourly rate of pay $20-$25Applicants with an educational and/or professional background in social work, public health or community engagement are highly encouraged to applyResponsibilities include the following however other duties may be assigned:Support the planning and execution of AWLA's mobile pet resource sites across the county; providing resources off-site to community members and their pets, including food, healthcare options and other programs and services AWLA offers.Conduct surveys at mobile sites, track data and analyze results in consultation with Community Outreach SpecialistAssist with the planning and execution of AWLA's free veterinary clinicsAssist in coordinating low cost/ free spay and neuter vouchers for community membersPerforms additional duties as deemed necessary and assigned Qualifications:Proficiency in Spanish required; additional languages highly preferredMust be confident working with the public under a variety of circumstances Excellent in person communication skills both in person and over the phoneExperience working with low income or under resources communities highly desiredStrong interpersonal skills and ability to work in fast paced events and programsFlexible schedule and available to work weekends and evenings as events are scheduledStrong computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google SuiteValid driver's license and clean driving recordAbility to pass NSOPW background clearanceAbility to maintain discretion with confidential informationSupervisory Responsibilities: While this position does not have direct supervisory duties, it involves regular interaction with and engagement of volunteers.Typical Physical & Mental Demands: Working with animals involves frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling and extended periods to walking or standing.
You will need strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate common equipment like computers, telephones, photocopiers and other systems/tools used in daily tasks.Be prepared for exposure to injured or deceased animals, disinfection chemicals and fluctuating indoor and outdoor temperatures.
You may assist in restraining animals, including those that are distressed to aggressive and face potentially hazardous situations like bites or scratches.Physical strength and dexterity are essential for managing animals on a leash, often while performing other tasks such as opening doors.
You should be able to lift and move heavy objects or animals (up to 50lbs) and engage in active, physical work throughout the day.Clear hearing and vision are necessary for effective communications with the public, volunteers, staff and animals.
Flexibility and adaptability are also crucial to managing frequent interruptions and changes in routine.
Comfort around a wide variety of animals - including dogs, cats, small companion animals, reptiles, amphibians and wildlife is key.Additionally, this role requires emotional intelligence, empathy and resilience to handle both the rewarding and challenging aspects of working with animals.
Candidates must maintain composure, show compassion and sty focused in a dynamic environment.Vaccination requirement: Upon hire, employees will be required to receive rabies prophylaxis and tetanus vaccinations.
