Compliance Lead

The Starknet Foundation supports the development of Starknet, a state-of-the-art layer 2 blockchain network built on top of Ethereum. Our mission is to unlock Ethereum's scalability and efficiency, making decentralized applications more accessible and effective. We are seeking an experienced and proactive Compliance Lead to spearhead our compliance efforts. This role is crucial in ensuring adherence to regulatory obligations, fostering a culture of compliance, and supporting sustainable business growth. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Legal.
\n Responsibilities:Internal Policies: Drafting and implementing policies applicable to the global team.Staff Development: Educate teams on policies in place, and organizational procedures to ensure comprehensive understanding and consistent application.Training: Working in collaboration with the People Team developing, implementing and refining training programs to effectively integrate new hires and maintain team alignment with compliance standards.KYC: Maintain appropriate AML/KYC controls in the context of onboarding DPs, grant recipients and vendors.Advisory: Serve as the primary compliance advisor to the business, offering guidance on regulatory obligations and emerging compliance risks. Support the product, growth, operations and event teams to ensure compliance considerations are integrated into development and planning.Regulatory Engagement: Main liaison to regulators - managing communications and submissions as required. Stay updated on regulatory developments in the crypto and Web3 space (on a global basis), advising the company on necessary adaptations.Marketing & Communications: Conduct compliance reviews of marketing materials and external communications to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.MICA: Develop and implement controls to meet the requirements of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (in the context of offeror obligations). Monitor ongoing adherence and address regulatory gaps proactively.Internal Reviews: Conduct regular reviews to identify compliance gaps, address issues, and strengthen adherence to internal policies and external regulations.Compliance Reporting: Prepare and submit detailed compliance reports to the Board. Requirements:Minimum of 8 years of experience in compliance working in the financial industry or technology environment.Experience in sanctions and AML Experience in GDPR.Deep understanding of MICA.Experience working with Regulators.Ability to work independently in a remote environment with a globally-dispersed team.Knowledge of blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, and decentralized finance (DeFi) is highly desirable.
