About The Division

Join the Enforcement division as a Taxpayer Enforcement Officer!
Work involves enforcement, compliance, and interpretation of the Texas Tax Code and related statutes pertaining to the collection of direct and indirect taxes and fees.
This job is a position of public trust and requires a high degree of confidentiality in handling all taxpayer records, information, and payments.


This position may be eligible for a flexible/hybrid work schedule of 3 in office days and 2 remote work days once certain conditions are met.
Work schedules may change at any time as business necessitates.


Agency standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours.
Hours are subject to change based upon business need or division determination.


Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the General Educational Development test (GED).


• 2 years full time work experience in a related field to include but not limited to work in accounting, bookkeeping, a call center, clerical/administrative, collections, or record keeping.


Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.


• Complete copies of college transcripts must be furnished to the divisional hiring representative at the time of the interview for positions requiring a college degree, and/or specific educational credits.


• 2 years' experience in bookkeeping, a call center, or collections.


Substitutions

• Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the administrative support or clerical work experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with a maximum substitution of two years.


Licenses and Certifications

• A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of employment.
Applicants offered an interview must present the following documents at or before the interview: A state issued driving record for the last 36 months, valid Texas driver's license (or state of residency driver's license) and current proof of automobile insurance.


SUMMARY OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely.
You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.


In this role you will:

• Enforces and promotes compliance of Title 2 of the Texas Tax Code and related statutes, rules, and publications for taxes and fees administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.


• Works with the general public, taxpayers, taxpayer representatives, and state and local authorities.
Provides education on tax laws, rules, publications, and forms.


• Conducts individualized tax analysis on each case, tax account, or assignment to determine the next appropriate action in accordance with agency and division policies and procedures and all tax laws.


• Establishes liability using original or estimated data on all delinquent taxes.


• Utilizes all collection remedies under Title 2 of the Texas Tax Code and related statutes in accordance with agency and division policies and procedures.


• Documents an accurate record of taxpayer or taxpayer representative communication and actions.


• Updates division and agency databases to reflect various collections work, file maintenance, and account statuses.


• Performs collection and compliance work in person in an office, a taxpayer's place of business, or other public venue; over the phone; and/or through written correspondence.


• Collects cash and non-cash payments from taxpayers.


• May conduct inspections.


• May assist with seizures.


• May work with other state agencies, state or local officials, and local law enforcement.


• Attends extensive mandatory training, both on-the-job and in a class setting, located in local and out-of-town locations.


• May conduct tax seminars, or other tax-related topics, for the public and various business groups and may represent the Comptroller's office at business conferences and professional fairs.


• May present testimony and evidence in administrative hearings or for court proceedings.


• May participate in special projects.


• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
