Put simply, The Athletic is at the center of a sports fan's universe.About the RoleWe are looking for a switched-on editor with an in-depth knowledge of UK sport, in particular football, to join our expanding operation. Expertise in US sports would be a bonus.Working on the UK desk, you will be responsible for editing copy to The Athletic's high standards, writing headlines and working with other departments to project pieces to the widest audience possible.Our ideal candidate will have experience of working in a busy newsroom, a journalistic qualification and SEO expertise. They will be a good communicator with excellent ideas, a deep understanding of sport and a willingness to work evenings and weekends.This is a hybrid role and we would ideally like the successful candidate to work from our London office at least three days a week.This is a contract role through end of year 2024 and will end on December, 31, 2024.ResponsibilitiesEditing stories.Liaising with reporters.Contribute proactively to daily editorial meetings with new ideas.Broad knowledge of a wide variety of men's and women's sport.Understanding of social media and data.Requirements Relevant qualification with 2+ years of relevant journalistic experience.Ability to operate quickly and communicate information effectively.Experience of working with SEO.Excellent writing skills and an ability to convey information precisely.In-depth knowledge of sport.High-level communication skills and an ability to liaise with senior management.Collaborate with other global offices and work flexibly across different time zones.This is a hybrid role and we would ideally like the successful candidate to work from our London office at least three days a week.This is a contract role through end of year 2024 and will end on December, 31, 2024.The rate offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location.
