We are currently looking for a Controller to join our team in the DC office. The ideal candidate will create systems of accounting and control to ensure the firm's assets are safeguarded and meet the internal and external reporting needs of the organization. As a strong communicator and skilled financial professional, this individual will make it their mission to streamline the firm's financial processes and help leadership improve operational efficiency and aid in the firm's continued growth.
What are the responsibilities?Manages various strategic financial functions such as monthly close, budgeting, and overseeing accounting operations (including billing, A/R, A/P, Payroll, General Ledger, Budgeting, Forecasting).Own and improve the AP/AR Statement review process.Ensure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing processes, standardized controls, and policy checks across all departments. Conduct regular account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data.Manage bank transactions, expense reimbursement, and corporate purchasing card platforms.Assist in month, quarter, and year-end close, including recording journal entries.Oversee all payment transactions such as ACH, wires, and paper checks.Oversee all business compliance requirements, including but not limited to business license and registration, and 1099 tax information.Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and annual tax reporting.Implement and maintain effective internal controls and processes to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, integrity of data, and safeguarding of assets.Manage accounting policies and procedures and lead efforts to change initiatives and process improvements.Assist in other accounting-related projects, as needed.Collaborate with other departments to provide financial guidance and support for decision-making processes.Comply with state and federal tax requirements for payroll and sales and use taxes.Stay up to date with changes in accounting regulations and best practices.Skills/Qualifications15+ years of experience in accounting and audits within financial services.Proficient in QuickBooks Enterprise.Experience with budgeting and forecasting processes.Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.Able to work independently, but also effectively as part of a team.Proactive approach to problem solving and timely reporting.EXCELLENT BENEFITS, including fully employer-sponsored medical, dental, and life insurance, 401(K) contribution, Metro/Parking reimbursement, generous paid leave, and $5,000 yearly training assistance for career advancement (Mon-Thurs in person; Fri remote).
