First Mode is seeking to add a Controls Engineer to support behavior definition, fault management, calibration, and verification on our Haul Truck Systems team. In this role, you will have an opportunity to become knowledgeable about how all aspects of our haul trucks work and will be directly responsible for successful delivery of complex systems. Applicants from all industries are welcome, with particular emphasis in complex, multi-disciplinary system developments.

Position Responsibilities Develop system behaviors and define modes of operation Support product owners in definition of concept of operations Identify and capture system and component requirements and fault conditions Define sub-system and system level fault responses Communicate requirements to embedded software teams and other stakeholders Collaborate with both hardware and software engineers to develop, integrate, and debug hardware and embedded software Represent control systems as a stakeholder within a multi-disciplinary team, from system formulation through design, build and test Develop and execute calibration and verification plans to support software and system verification testing Basic Qualifications Demonstrated experience in life-cycle development of hardware or software for a safety-critical system or product Experience working with avionics systems, embedded electronics, automotive systems or industrial controls Experience with Model-Based Development using tools such as Simulink/Stateflow Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols (CAN Open, J1939, Ethernet) Experience with system verification planning and testing Ability to write and speak clearly about a technical subject matter Flexibility and responsiveness in a fast-paced, dynamic, small team environment Are willing to travel both domestically and internationally to represent First Mode to its customers, vendors, and partners Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of professional experience in a Controls Engineering (or equivalent) role; job level dependent on experience and qualifications Experience with FMEA / FMECA analysis and fault management Experience with vehicle calibration and test equipment and processes (DAQ systems, debug/calibration of embedded vehicle controllers over XCP or similar) Experience identifying states and modes for complex systems Experience working fluid, thermal, or other mechanical systems Experience working with safety critical systems and functional safety in industrial, automotive, aircraft, space or mining industries Additional Requirements Bachelors degree in a science or engineering discipline or equivalent experience Location This position will be located at First Mode's headquarters in Seattle, WA and will be required to work in office >60% of working hours Total Rewards Base Salary Range: $113,000 - $143,000
