What you'll be doing...Verizon seeks a talented and motivated Counsel to join its Public Policy team.
This position will report to the VP Deputy General Counsel responsible for state and local regulatory and policy matters, and will specifically join Verizon's legal team that handles those responsibilities.
The candidate will become a member of our state regulatory legal team handling various legal proceedings involving regulatory agencies.
The candidate must have sound business judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and crisp legal judgment.
The ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment is critical, as is the ability to develop key relationships and maintain a visible presence with regulatory officials.
Key Responsibilities include:
Preparing, filing, and responding to regulator questions about filings related to regulatory approvals related to pending transactions.
Serving as the central legal contact with state and local government regulators, responding to their inquiries and participating in formal and informal proceedings with these regulators.
Supporting regulatory legal responsibilities in various states.
Managing formal and informal cases and proceedings in various states.
Working independently in resolving multiple complex regulatory issues, including analyzing, responding to and advising on and escalating high risk requirements.
Developing a deep knowledge of state and local regulatory requirements.
Developing fluency in Verizon's wireless and wireline product portfolio.
What we're looking for…You'll need to have…
JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
Bar admission and good standing in at least one state and required licenses.
Background and knowledge of regulatory law and practice.
Strong relationship building, influencing, and communications skills.
Experience managing multiple projects independently in a dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
Experience with new technologies, including automation, that promote efficiencies.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
A strong interest in policy and politics.
A general understanding of internal Verizon processes.
Specific experience working with state and local regulatory agencies.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communications.
Confidence, versatility and a customer service attitude to interact with government officials as a primary point of contact for Verizon.
