At Ford Motor Company, we believe freedom of movement drives human progress. We also believe in providing you with the freedom to define and realize your dreams! With our incredible plans for the future of mobility, we have a wide variety of opportunities for you to accelerate your career potential as you help us define tomorrow's transportation.
Ford EV D&D is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up breakthrough electric vehicles. By joining the best software, engineering, design and UX talent, you will be a part of creating innovative technologies and concepts that can be applied across the Ford enterprise. Being on the Ford Advanced EV team means building the future as Ford's center of innovation and growth through electric and connected vehicles and services.
The Crash Sensor Integration/Performance Engineer will be responsible for the complete design, process, and execution of creating a crash calibration for each vehicle on the EV platform. You will influence the vehicle crash plan and work in lockstep with occupant, EV safety, Vulnerable Road User (VRU), and structure teams to meet the safety attributes of the platform.Using first principles engineering & CAE analysis, you will lead the packaging of all crash sensors and improve Ford's crash performance strategy to create a world class safety product. You will Conceptualize, Design, Engineer, Develop and support the launch of next-generation vehicle platforms for electric vehicles.
Roadmap a vehicle crash series to optimize the vehicle crash calibration activity from structural concept (Mule) to series production verification for homologation. End to end development of Front, Side, Rear, VRU, Rollover calibrations for multiple EVs on multiple platforms.
Use first principal analysis with CAE/Signal Analysis tools (preferably Hyperworks) to evaluate the sensor performance, influence sensor position, and meet occupant performance criteria before SOP.
Perform trade-off analysis with HV safety and occupant safety teams to tune the crash algorithm thresholds to meet vehicle performance targets. Evaluate sensor data after each sub-system/vehicle crash during development. Create a data integrity report for each crash to further integrate Ford into the crash calibration process.
Dictate crash sensing strategy at the project outset and optimize the sensor constellation for each applicable global market.
Implement/Design OCS strategies/requirements into the crash algorithm with other subject matter experts for the best field performance.
Participate in crash safety, functional safety and failure avoidance analysis of complex electrical and software vehicle subsystems (HARA, FMEAs, etc.).
Work with the design and development engineers throughout the engineering organization to ensure passive safety components have appropriate packaging, requirements and interface definition to achieve their specific vehicle functions.
Provide objective based directions to the vehicle safety, simulation, design and test teams.
