The Role
Netflix's business continues to expand in new ways to serve our global members. Whether it's evolving how we offer best-in-class entertainment content to new forms that entertainment may take (games, live events, etc), as a global company it is important to convey a visually cohesive, thoughtful and emotionally resonant experience that feels as if it's coming from a shared, common voice and brand.
To help us achieve this, we're looking for a wildly creative, visually-driven design leader / manager whose excellent aesthetic taste and eye for detail is matched only by their ability to influence, collaborate, and help guide cross-functional product organizations towards a unified vision. This hybrid role will not only creative direct, but also manage a small multidisciplinary SWAT-team of visual, motion, and sound designers.
This role is a leadership whisperer, egoless creative visionary, and product design sherpa that also has deep experience and knowledge leveraging and evolving design for complex product ecosystems.
What You'll do
Manage a focused, multidisciplinary team to define a cohesive UX strategy, systems framework, and design languagethat can be applied across multiple product experiences, establishing the quality bar and enabling a unified look and feel that reflects who we are and / or how we want to be perceived
Drive collaboration and creative visionacross diverse stakeholders, ensuring quality while rallying, collaborating, and aligning with them around the approach, priorities, and execution
Guide the team to define and articulate brand-driven creative principles and guidelinesthat anchors the design language creative (visual, motion, audio, behavioral) expression
Partner with systems designers to scale creative decisions via the design system,helping define an adaptable set of UX guidelines and components
Creative directvisual elements, iconography, illustrations, imagery, typography, color, motion, and audio, partnering with product leaders and ICs across the org to build successful, beautiful, usable products at scale
Help influence product roadmaps, both short-term and long-term
Experience and Soft Skill Must-Haves
Demonstrated experience of real-world impact– clear examples of what a product experience(s) was like before you arrived, and after you've arrived, along with the business impact of your efforts
Proven track record for leading large-scale redesignsand helping to evolve Design Language systems for complex, consumer-facing products
Proactive leadership and comfort with ambiguity– candidates should be able to demonstrate examples of proactive leadership on large-scale initiatives that required clarity, direction, and influence amidst complexity and ambiguity
Relationship and trust building– candidates are expected to develop strong, trusting partnerships to guide, inform, or support efforts; you must have and demonstrate deep collaboration, curiosity, optimism and positivity
Verbal and visual communication– you should be an exceptional communicator and storyteller, able to help others express often diverse, complex ideas in a clear, compelling, and business-aligned manner
Context, scale, quality– you thrive in fast-paced, multi-project environments, and where context-switching is the norm; you should be comfortable and thrive despite such circumstances, inspiring others with high levels of creativity and quality of craft
Technical and Hard Skill Must-Haves
5+ years managing an interdisciplinary team
Solid portfolio demonstrating ridiculously great taste, with an exceptional, high quality bar for craft, execution, and decision-making across a variety of UX / UI applications
Deep understanding and expertise with interaction, visual, motion, and audio design
Strong product design and development expertise, able to communicate at all levels of an organization
Experience working at the intersection of product, brand, and marketing, with a strong perspective of how they all come together to drive perception or behavior through creative
Experience working with developing or integrating brand strategy and translating attributes into product experiences
Strong technical understanding and aptitude, esp as related to design systems
Compensation Range:
Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $270,000 - $700,000
