Program Director The Cancer Support Community (CSC), an international nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., is seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented individual who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of people impacted by cancer for our Cancer Support Community Washington, D.C. (CSC DC) location.

JOB SUMMARY The CSC DC Program Director role will be critical to supporting those impacted by cancer in the Washington, D.C, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) region and to developing relationships in the greater DMV community with other organizations that diagnose, treat, and support cancer patients. Working collaboratively with the Executive Director, the Program Director develops, implements, and manages all clinical programs and services for CSC DC. This includes supervising clinical staff, participating in direct service, and active involvement in hospital and community outreach relations. The Program Director ensures that policies, procedures, and all programs are carried out professionally in keeping with the Cancer Support Community Headquarters program guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Program Administration and Delivery:Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and supervise CSC DC Program staff and ensure adherence by all program staff to the policies, procedures, and program guidelines as outlined by Cancer Support Community Headquarters.Develop, implement, and manage all psychosocial, clinical programs, and services for CSC DC, both in-person and virtual, including support groups, educational programs, social events, and healthy lifestyle programs within budgeted guidelines.Utilize clinical skills to manage and guide programs, which includes: CancerSupportSource distress screenings, group support, and orientation of participants.Addresses barriers to care by providing individualized assistance and personalized support to patients, survivors, and families including short term counseling, patient navigation, and providing referrals.Provides immediate emotional support to participants who walk-in and telephone, in distress.Provides virtual/digital programming in addition to or as a replacement for in-person programming, and as the situation dictates.Absorbs and disseminates detailed information and relates it to patients, caregivers, and family members in terms that are understandable in a pleasant and helpful manner.Oversee planning of and coordinate coverage of all in-person and virtual support groups, networking groups, workshops, healthy lifestyle activities, and social events.Availability to respond to Program questions, problems, and opportunities from staff, phone or walk-in inquiries, outside agencies, etc., as the situation dictates.Maintains contact with CSC Research and CSC Policy and Advocacy teams, and networks regularly with program staff at other CSC/Gilda's Clubs sites.Assessment and Evaluation:Utilize CMR database to keep track of program metrics. Collaborate with the Executive Director to create quarterly reports to submit to Cancer Support Community Headquarters and to the Board of Directors. Based on quarterly data, evaluate program effectiveness, and adjust accordingly.In collaboration with the Executive Director, conduct an annual review of the CSC DC strategic plan and goals, including an evaluation of the Psycho-Oncology services provided to cancer patients and their families in the DMV area.When appropriate, collaborate with educational institutions, area hospitals, and the Cancer Support Community Headquarters staff in research and development of new programs.Supports grant development and implementation as needed.Communication and Outreach:Make presentations to health care professionals and other groups as needed.Oversee the Professional Advisory Board.Develop content for the program calendar including, but not limited to, recruiting and supervising workshop leaders and adjunct instructors.Oversee inventory of program materials and community resource information.Maintains regular contact with program staff at other CSC facilities.Staff and Program Oversight:Manage Program staff according to CSC DC personnel policies and procedures.Responsible for recruitment and retention of Program staff and the appropriate linkage to CSC Headquarters' resources.Maintain a cohesive team environment that facilitates mutual respect and partnership.Create and maintain a climate that attracts, retains, and motivates highly skilled people.Foster and support staff career development and professional growth.Utilize clinical expertise to ensure program alignment with CSC Program Standards as defined in the Program Manual and Policies and Procedures.Orient and monitor workshop presenters, adjunct instructors and other CSC DC speakers to ensure quality, fair balance, and adherence to CSC DC policies. Supervise (or arrange a designee to supervise) the opening and closing of educational workshops and other special programs as well as coordinate clinical staff coverage as needed.Interact with Program Directors from other network partners via Program Director conference calls, email communications, and regional and network-wide meetings to share best practices, consultation, and support.Attend local, regional, and national conferences as scheduled.External Relations:In collaboration with CSC Headquarters, serve as liaison to referral sources, the media, and other constituents and allies.Support and represent CSC DC at fundraising, public relations, and social activities as requested.In collaboration with CSC Headquarters marketing and communications staff, promote awareness of CSC DC and its identity as a leader in the wellness and cancer community through marketing and proactive outreach to major cancer centers in the DMV area and local, influential and relevant non-profits.Assure that CSC DC and its mission, program, and services are consistently represented in a forward-thinking, positive narrative.Performs other duties as required by management SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate will be required to hold a clinical license in Washington, D.C. and ideally in Virginia and Maryland too. After hire, licensure in all three will be required. At a minimum, a Licensed Master's level mental health professional, including but not limited to Master Level Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Mental Health Clinician, or Clinical Psychologist licensed to practice in Washington, D.C. (Virginia and Maryland in addition preferred) Documentation of licensure in Washington, D.C. is required upon hire and at each renewal period.Three to five years non-profit or social services-based oncology patient support experience preferred.Knowledge of and experience networking within the DMV medical/oncology market.Possesses a service mindset.Effective time management and leadership skills, ability to adhere to tight timetables.Cross-functional team player; works autonomously at times, or in small groups, to get programs off the ground.Superior written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, problem-solving capacities, and flexibility.Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.Bilingual candidate preferred but not required.Regular travel within the DMV area, including occasional weekend travel.Occasional need to work flexible hours, which may include evening program support, as applicable.Ability to travel with limited frequency within the United States.Valid driver's license required.SALARY AND BENEFITS Dependent on experience. WORK LOCATION CSC DC is in Washington, D.C. and the candidate may live anywhere in the D.C. area. Work is hybrid including virtual, onsite, and in the community.
