JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for the overall appearance of assigned facilities by maintaining cleanliness and organization of interior spaces and performing basic grounds maintenance for outside areas.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Clean inside buildings including but not limited to dusting, sweeping, mopping, waxing/stripping linoleum floors, shampooing rugs, etc. Remove and empty all trash and recycling. Clean, service, and disinfect restrooms replacing all paper products and supplies. Clean up spills, as well as provide stain and spot removal. Maintain exterior of assigned buildings and grounds in an orderly and neat fashion. Pick up litter, sweep/blow off sidewalks, clean exterior windows, etc. Provide light grounds work and water plants as needed. Remove graffiti as necessary. Set up and break down necessary supplies and equipment for events and programs as needed. Assist in moving/relocating furniture and/or equipment. Assist with painting projects as needed. Maintain tools and equipment in proper working order. Track and communicate inventory needs for maintenance and cleaning supplies. Post signage when needed to communicate closures, cautions, etc. Serves as back up to co-workers. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or equivalent training and/or job-related experience. One year's experience as a custodian, to include experience in light maintenance work, preferred. Valid South Carolina Driver's License, preferred. Must successfully obtain NCIC clearance within 30 days of hire. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Ability to operate light equipment, hand tools, and professional cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaner, broom, dust mop, bucket cleaning products, cloths/towels, buffing machine, scrub machine, etc. Ability to proactively identify, remove and report potential safety hazards. Ability to read basic communication, including but not limited to labels on chemical bottles, written instructions, etc. Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and effectively use ratios and measurements. Ability to operate general office equipment to include telephone and computer for the purpose of submitting electronic timesheets. Ability to provide quality customer service, including handling difficult customers. Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment. Ability to multi-task. Knowledge of cleaning and custodial practices. Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and disinfectants. Knowledge of safety practices involved in building and custodial work. W ORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed inside assigned building and outdoor facilities. Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed with exposure to risk. Daily exposure to respiratory and chemical hazards. Employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and cold or inclement weather. Seasonal exposure to extreme temperature and wetness and/or humidity with some outside work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Continuously requires vision, foot controls, balancing, hearing, and twisting. Frequently requires standing, walking, lifting, carrying, handling, kneeling, pushing/pulling, bending, and talking. Medium strength demands include exerting up to 10 pounds constantly, 10-25 pounds frequently, and 20-50 pounds occasionally.
MENTAL DEMANDS Occasionally requires time pressures and frequent change of tasks.
