Title: CUSTODIAN - SWAMPSCOTT HIGH SCHOOL - TWO SHIFTS AVAILABLE - SUB OPPORTUNITY ALSO AVAILABLE Position Narrative: The Swampscott Public Schools seeks well-qualified and experienced candidates for this position in the Facilities Department.
This is an important position within a developing department and the appropriate candidate should be eager to develop this role and help grow the Facilities Department.
Reports to: Operations and Maintenance Supervisor
Work Hours: 12-month position.
40 hours a week.
M-F 2 PM-10 PM plus overtime opportunities
Salary: Per Union Contract $21.70-$27.10/hour for FY25
Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid Class D Massachusetts driver's license.
Successful completion of a Criminal Record check (C.O.R.I.
), and SAFIS fingerprints.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to perform and coordinate a wide variety of building maintenance tasks.
Computer skills including the ability to learn and navigate BMS controls and Facilities/Maintenance Software PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Primary Position Objectives: Clean assigned route including removal of trash, recycling, and compost 2.
Supervise contract cleaners Perform nightly building closing duties: Secure all doors and windows Final check of the HVAC system Shut off lights and check the lighting control system Secure the Building and set a security alarm Perform Light Maintenance Monitor custodial supplies and coordinate with the Facility Supervisor Monitor Building Systems and report any issues to the Facility Supervisor and Maintenance Staff Coordinate with any outside contractors working in the building Assist in set up and breakdown of daily events Inspect the exterior of the building and remove any debris.
Report any security concerns.
Snow Removal Any other tasks assigned by the Facility Supervisor or Facilities Department Other Essential Functions:

Prioritize, schedule, and review work while meeting such schedules and timelines and maintain records of work.
Read and understand complex plans and specifications.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with coworkers, administrators, faculty and staff, and the public.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
The physical and environmental demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Physical: Regular periods of physical activity requiring the ability to stand for long periods, walk, climb, bend, crawl, and lift, carry, and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
The ability to make swift and responsible decisions in emergency or hazardous situations.
The employee must be able to communicate both through speech and hearing either normally or corrected.
An employee must have the ability to use hands and arms in order to safely operate equipment and perform the required tasks.
Good vision either normal or corrected is required.
Environmental: Frequent periods of outside work in all extremes of weather.
Interior work where the employee may be exposed to loud noise, extremes of heat and cold, and the use of various chemicals some of which may be hazardous and require special handling.
Some work may be on ladders, scaffolding, or aerial lifts.
Work in confined spaces is routine.
