Position Summary
As a Customer Resource Specialist I, you will play a vital role in supporting survivors of fallen officers, catastrophically injured officers, and their families through the benefits application process. Working within our dedicated team, you will serve as a secondary point of contact between applicants and the government, ensuring that each case is handled with the care, dignity, and attention it deserves. This position offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of public safety officers and their families during their times of greatest need.

Your Impact
In this role, you will be entrusted with guiding applicants through the benefits process with compassion and professionalism. You'll work directly with survivors and agencies, ensuring they receive timely responses and support throughout their application journey. Your work will directly contribute to the processing of approximately 750 death benefit applications, 150 disability claims, and 600 educational assistance applications annually, making a significant impact on the lives of public safety officers and their families.
Essential Responsibilities
As a Customer Resource Specialist I, you will build relationships with applicants and agencies, providing consistent support throughout the benefits process. Your primary focus will be ensuring timely communication and thorough application processing. Within 24 hours of initial contact, you'll reach out to survivors and agencies, beginning a relationship that continues throughout the application process. You'll manage document submission, facilitate communication between various stakeholders, and maintain detailed records in our PSOB 2.0 Portal.
Working closely with the PSOB Director and Benefits Specialists, you'll help resolve discrepancies and ensure all necessary documentation is properly submitted and processed. Your role requires a delicate balance of efficiency and empathy, as you'll be handling sensitive situations while maintaining professional standards and meeting critical deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in customer service, demonstrated through at least one year of relevant experience. A high school diploma is required, and candidates with Spanish language fluency are especially encouraged to apply, as we maintain at least one Spanish-speaking specialist on our team at all times. More importantly, you should possess a genuine desire to help others and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism when working with individuals experiencing difficult circumstances.
Work Environment
This position offers the flexibility of remote work, allowing you to serve from your home office anywhere within the United States. We provide the necessary tools for success, including a government-furnished laptop and smartphone. You'll work standard business hours between 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM Eastern Time, with some flexibility in scheduling after your initial 90-day period.

Candidates must meet DOJ residency requirements, having spent three of the past five years residing in the U.S., working overseas for the federal government, or as a dependent of a federal employee overseas.
