Maintains professional growth and developmentthrough seminars, workshops, conferences and professional affiliation.Responsibilities:Complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agenciesMaintains daily record of slides screened/hours worked at CentraState Pathology and slides screened/hours worked for any other outside employer per procedure manual.Maintains high level of proficiency and current knowledge through continuing education seminars, conferences and professional affiliations.Maintains microscope in working condition by performing routine maintenance (documenting on appropriate form), to include general cleaning, troubleshooting and reporting irregularities in operations with appropriate follow up.Maintains open communication with department supervisor, pathologists, and co-workers to ensure optimal operation of the department.Performs primary screening of Gynecological and Non-gynecological samples. Renders interpretation with appropriate comments in accordance with established departmentreporting procedures.Performs Quality Control screening as part of regular work, if eligible.Provides technical consultation for cytoprocessing technicians, assists them if possible or directs them to a more knowledgeable employee.Supports corporate policies and objectives, complies with quality assurance, safety and environmental and infection control protocols.#li-csta#zr#ind-csQualifications:Education:Bachelor's Science degree requiredIn addition, one year cytology technical training (from a CAHEA accredited school) or two years college with at least 12 semesterhours in science, 8 of which are biology, plus one year cytology technical training (from CAHEA accredited school) also required. Work Experience:Medical Technologist requiredLicenses and Certifications:ASCP registration requiredCytotechnologists may be hired immediately upon graduation from a CAHEA accredited school of Cytotechnology. They must beeligible for certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Registry. It is preferred that the registrybe taken prior to employment. If failure to pass the registry occurs the Cytotechnologist will be expected to retake the exam withinthe time frame set forth by the ASCP (only 2 consecutive attempts will be allowed).Required Knowledge and Skills:Ability to evaluate Gyn and Non-Gyn cellular material using established morphologic criteria. Ability to maintain the necessarylevels of confidentiality to protect client/patient's privacy and proprietary organizational information.
