The Role We're seeking a Data Architect to serve as the technical leader responsible for designing and implementing our clients organization's data infrastructure, with a primary focus on migrating from BigQuery to Snowflake. This role will oversee all aspects of data architecture, including governance, quality, and performance optimization, while providing hands-on technical leadership to the engineering team. As the organization's Snowflake expert, the Data Architect will establish best practices, ensure scalability, and enable analytics at scale.
Responsibilities: BigQuery-to-Snowflake Migration:Lead the full lifecycle migration of the data warehouse from BigQuery to Snowflake, ensuring minimal downtime and complete data integrity.Collaborate with stakeholders to map existing data workflows, plan for re-architecture, and validate data after migration.Develop rollback and contingency plans to mitigate risks during the migration process.Snowflake Platform Expertise:Act as the organization's Snowflake subject matter expert, leveraging advanced features like time travel, materialized views, data sharing, and secure data access.Continuously optimize Snowflake performance by implementing best practices for clustering, partitioning, and query optimization.Stay up to date on new Snowflake features and functionalities, incorporating them into the architecture as needed.Data Architecture Design:Design and implement a scalable, flexible, and secure data architecture that integrates disparate data sources such as Shopify, Funraise, and Braze into Snowflake.Build data models that support both operational reporting and advanced analytics.Ensure the architecture aligns with long-term organizational goals and evolving business needs.Data Quality and Monitoring:Establish automated data validation and monitoring frameworks to detect and resolve inconsistencies.Implement real-time data quality dashboards to track pipeline health, anomalies, and performance metrics.Develop standards for clean, accurate, and reliable data across all systems.Data Governance:Collaborate with the Data Governance Lead to define policies for data ownership, access control, and compliance.Embed governance practices into the architecture, ensuring alignment with regulatory and organizational standards.Document data lineage, metadata, and governance policies to promote transparency.Leadership and Collaboration:Lead and mentor a team of Data Engineers, establishing best practices for coding, documentation, and project management.Collaborate with business teams to translate requirements into technical solutions, ensuring alignment with analytics goals.Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, communicating complex ideas clearly and effectively.Documentation and Training:Develop detailed technical documentation for the data architecture, pipelines, and governance frameworks.Provide training sessions to internal teams on Snowflake best practices and usage. Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.8+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or related roles, with demonstrated leadership experience.Technical Expertise:Proven experience in migrating data warehouses, preferably from BigQuery to Snowflake.Deep expertise in Snowflake, including schema design, performance tuning, and advanced features like time travel and data sharing.Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for developing ETL workflows and optimizing queries.ETL/ELT Development:Advanced experience with tools like Fivetran, Stitch, Airflow, or similar platforms.Ability to design robust ETL pipelines that are scalable and fault-tolerant.Data Quality and Governance:Strong knowledge of data validation, lineage tracking, and monitoring frameworks.Familiarity with governance concepts such as role-based access control and regulatory compliance.Cloud Platforms:Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, including tools like S3, Redshift, or BigQuery.Excellent leadership, mentorship, and stakeholder management skills.Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence decision-making.Experience working remotely.
