Job Description - DATA SCIENTIST ASSISTANT (T221411) University of Alabama at Birmingham Job Summary The Data Scientist Assistant is responsible for analyzing complex data sets, conducting data extraction, and supporting evaluation processes to provide valuable insights for decision-making within the unit. This role also includes ensuring database operations and collaborating with internal program staff and the data and evaluation team. Additionally, the assistant works closely with the team to develop quality assurance (QA) processes under the supervision of the Data Scientist Lead. The assistant ensures data accuracy, compliance, and smooth operation of data processes, contributing to actionable insights and program improvements.
Database Operations, Analysis and ReportingConduct data extractions and analyses to support program evaluations, performance metrics, strategic decision-making, and reporting for the Substance Abuse Division and Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology. Develop weekly, monthly, quarterly and/or annual reports, as needed that are distributed to internal staff and state, federal, and local funding sponsors.Extract data from multiple sources, including FileMaker and Cerner.Produce analytical reports using descriptive statistics and data visualization techniques, and effectively communicate findings to key stakeholders to enable data-driven decision making. Present findings to internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with partner requirements. Assist in data cleaning, management, and quality checks.Develop effective automation solutions for repetitive tasks to improve workflow within the department.Ensure that databases are operational and accessible to all employees, providing technical support as needed.Work with UAB and UAHSF information systems units to manage database operations, ensuring smooth functionality, system upgrades, and troubleshooting.Program EvaluationContribute to the selection of appropriate statistical methods and study design.Conduct statistical analyses and preparation of data for presentation and dissemination. Generate and test hypotheses and analyze and interpret the results of experiments.Assist in documentation and reporting of results.Conduct comprehensive analyses to evaluate program efficiency, performance, client outcomes, and system processes.Perform other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Work CharacteristicsExperienced in Excel Relational Database Experience.Power BI or Tableau SQL.Salary Range: $70,425 - $114,440
