Job Description:
Reporting to the Manager of Database Administration, the Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring assigned databases meet the needs of users and comply with the organizational strategy and direction of Community Healthcare System.
Supports the day-to-day activities of Application Administrators, System Engineers, and end users by working closely with them on upgrades, new installations, and issue resolution.
Responsible for performance tuning, security hardening, upgrading/patching, backups/restores, and disaster recovery of relational and non-relational databases.
Ensures best practices are followed to ensure high availability.
Should be an expert in either Microsoft SQL or Intersystems Iris.
Should be proficient with latest operating systems as well as hypervisors.
Responsible for administration and design of assigned databases, including but not limited to, performance and performance tuning, data integrity, backup and recovery, and optimization.
Participates in implementation of new databases and database servers.
Supports enterprise applications and handles day-to-day technical issues and database maintenance.
Actively contributes to the help desk knowledge base to aid users.
Provides second and third level support to System Administrators and System Engineers.
Plans and implements disaster recovery (DR) systems, documents the DR process, and implements and follows DR test plans.
Patches and upgrades systems to ensure systems are running optimally and known security vulnerabilities are resolved.
Makes recommendations for enhancing security and performance.
Escalates issues to the Manager of Database Administration.
Keeps meticulous records of databases, database servers, and information surrounding all databases in a central location for other members of the team.
Monitors backups to verify they complete on a daily basis.
Facilitates communication among IT staff and users by participating in team meetings and providing verbal and written updates to the Manager of Database Administration and Director of IT Technical Services.
Creates diagram of workflows and server configurations.
Verifies database servers are in compliance with vendor licensing agreements and makes recommendations for corrective action if not.
Required Skills & Qualifications: Minimum Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field required Minimum three (3) year experience working with at least one of the following databases: Intersystems Iris or Micrososft SQL.
Certification in the respective database preferred.
Minimum two (2) years scripting experience.
Knowledge of Linux or Windows operating systems.
Knowledge of VMware ESXi.
Healthcare experience preferred.
Must be able to participate in on-call rotation and be able to respond to issues after hours as needed.
