The Lead Registered Nurse (Lead RN) oversees the delivery of nursing and health services within the SJCS DC programs, ensuring compliance with DDS regulations.
This position focuses on promoting the health and well-being of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by providing clinical oversight, developing care plans, and ensuring that nursing staff and direct support professionals (DSPs) are trained in appropriate healthcare practices.
The Lead RN is expected to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure that individuals receive the highest quality of care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications Your overall essential responsibilities will be the following: Clinical Leadership:Provide clinical supervision and leadership to nursing staff across the licensed programs.
Ensure the delivery of high-quality nursing care that meets or exceeds DDS standards and regulatory requirements.Serve as the clinical lead in developing and updating individualized care plans for each individual receiving services.Healthcare Management:Monitor the ongoing health status of individuals, including conducting assessments, reviewing medical histories, and addressing emerging health concerns.Coordinate medical care with external healthcare providers, including primary care physicians, specialists, and DDS-required medical services.Review protocols for health screenings, medication management, and emergency response within the IDD programs.Compliance and Documentation:Ensure compliance with DDS regulations, including the proper documentation of health assessments, care plans, and any significant medical changes.Conduct regular audits of nursing and medical records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to all applicable regulations.Participate in reviews, audits, and inspections by DDS and other regulatory agencies, ensuring that any findings are addressed promptly.Education and Training:Develop and implement training programs for nursing staff and DSPs to ensure that they are knowledgeable about best practices in healthcare for individuals with IDD.Provide ongoing education on topics such as medication administration, infection control, chronic disease management, and DDS regulatory updates.Ensure staff competency in executing emergency procedures, including CPR, First Aid, and DDS emergency protocols.Interdisciplinary Collaboration:Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including QIDPs (Qualified Intellectual Disability Professionals), Residential Program Managers, behavioral health staff, and family members, to ensure that all aspects of an individual's care are integrated and aligned with their care plan.Act as a liaison between nursing staff and other team members to promote coordinated care across the IDD programs.Incident Reporting and Investigations:Participate in and contribute to DDS investigations of medical incidents, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of health-related incidents.Collaborate with Quality Assurance staff to identify and implement corrective actions when necessary, particularly regarding health and safety concerns.Program Development and Quality Improvement:Lead initiatives to improve healthcare services within IDD programs, focusing on enhancing health outcomes and compliance with DDS standards.Monitor trends in healthcare needs among individuals and propose improvements or new services as needed.Work with management to develop and refine policies related to nursing care, health management, and regulatory compliance.Family and Guardian Communication:Maintain regular communication with families, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding the health status of individuals and any changes to their care plans.Facilitate meetings and updates to ensure that families and guardians are informed and engaged in the healthcare process. You will catch our eye if you have the following qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities: Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in DCExperience: Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience, with at least three (3) years in IDD services, group homes, or similar settings.
Experience with DDS regulations and compliance is preferred.Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or related field required; Master's Degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration is preferred.Certifications: CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration certification, DDS-specific training as required.Skills: Strong clinical skills, leadership, problem-solving, ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, excellent written and verbal communication, and knowledge of DDS regulatory requirements. All SJCS employees must: Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks. Physical and environmental conditions and requirements include: Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort except the usual risks or discomforts, requiring special safety precautions for operating a motor vehicle.Ability to travel between program locations as needed; flexibility in scheduling to respond to medical emergencies.
Travel up to 50-65%. The hiring range for this position is $105,000 to $110,000, depending on experience.
