Dean of Basic and Transitional Studies Division (BTSD) and Seattle Colleges Institute of English (SCIE)
Seattle Central is looking to hire a Dean for Basic and Transitional Studies (BTS) and the Seattle Colleges Institute of English (SCIE).
Salary Range for this position is $101,478 to $140,104 annually (depending on experience).
Initial review of application materials will begin on January 24th, 2025. Position Summary The Dean is a service-oriented unit administrator who is skilled in relationship and partnership building, as the position supports instructional operations across multiple programs and establishes and fosters educational excellence at Seattle Central College.
The Dean will manage and lead:
Seattle Colleges Institute of English (SCIE) which supports international students.Intensive English programCollege Bridge ProgramBasic and Transitional Studies Division (BTSD) which supports residential students.English as a Second Language (ESL)Adult Basic Education (ABE)General Education Diploma (GED)Learning Center Seattle (LCS)Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions Program (AANAPISI)Integrated Basic Education Skills and Training (IBEST)BTS Transition CenterHigh School Plus (HS+)Basic and Transitional Studies tutoring programOff-site programs which provide ESL classes at community-based organizationsThe position requires a strong, collaborative leader who fosters growth and innovation across the division and its departments.
This role involves guiding teams within the division, facilitating interdisciplinary initiatives, and promoting alignment with institutional goals.
Specific responsibilities include overall planning, development, compliance reporting, renewal, and revision of academic programs and services to ensure meaningful academic outcomes, program quality, effectiveness, and financial viability.
This position is Full-time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday primarily 8am-5pm.
The schedule may vary depending on program needs and may require working evenings and weekends as needed.

What you will be working on: Ensuring Student Success Ensure an environment of educational support and accessibility for diverse students to pursue and achieve their learning goals.Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement a vision and plan that advances programs supporting student completion and career or college transitions.Develop strong relationships within internal and external communities to effectively advocate for student and program success.Support the division's BTS Transition Center to strengthen advising for students in ESL/ABE/GED/HS+ and pre-college pathways.Facilitate collaboration between the International Programs department and SCIE faculty to strengthen student success infrastructure.Support faculty in the practice of anti-racist and culturally sustaining pedagogy.Engage with students to address needs, complaints, and academic and behavioral concerns.Advocacy & Relationships Support the mission, vision, and values of Seattle Central College through responsible leadership.Advocate for the division and support the overall success of the college.Build and cultivate systems, structures, and communication channels to support relationships.Facilitate collaboration, transparent communication, community building, and inclusive decision-making processes.Initiate, lead, and support professional development of the division's employees.Cultivate a culture of recognition and appreciation.Management Communicate in a timely manner about processes, decisions, and changes that affect the division and programs.Develop, document, implement, and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.Demonstrate a commitment to shared governance and consultative processes.Drive responsive initiatives to build program capacity and ensure sustainable enrollment.Provide strategic leadership and effective management of resources.Apply for, manage, and renew state and federal grant funding.Work alongside faculty to plan teaching schedules in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.Recruit, hire, evaluate, and provide constructive supervision to staff.Cultivate an effective and collegial working and learning environment.Perform other duties as required.
What you bring as a candidate: A Master's Degree relevant to the position.Minimum of one year of coordination, supervision, or administrative experience in higher education.Minimum of two years of experience teaching adults.Experience working with international students.Successful candidates will have demonstrated the following: Ability to actively lead efforts to integrate equity and inclusion.Understanding of the goals and issues related to a diverse student population.Administrative experience, including instructional team supervision and budget management.Ability to build and maintain internal and external partnerships.Physical Demands and Disability Accommodation Persons with disabilities have the right to reasonable accommodation in all aspects of employment.
