Dean of Career and Technical Education (INTERNAL POSTING) The Dean of Career and Technical Education will work to promote a culture of accountability and excellence to improve student learning. The Dean is responsible for managing and providing leadership for the CTE division of the College, while serving as a liaison with the business community in collaboration with the SCC Center for Business (CBIZ). The Dean will be responsible for the primary administrative oversight of all career and technical credit programs offered both on and off campus. Duties include leadership responsibility for CTE faculty and staff, as well as responsibility for curriculum planning, development, staffing, evaluating, and budget administration for the division.
This position is a full-time position (261 day contract) with a minimum annual starting salary of $85,000. Benefits include medical, dental & vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid spring and holiday breaks, 15 days vacation and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement Plan.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provide the institutional leadership necessary to develop and maintain career and technical programs of study which, within legal and fiscal restraints, meets the needs of students.
Develop and maintain regional business and industry relationships which will serve the interests of SCC.
Prepare, in collaboration with CBIZ, a long-term plan for alignment between workforce-centered credit and non-credit initiatives at SCC.
Acquire and apply knowledge of trends in business and industry training and consulting services in collaboration with CBIZ.
Supervise and evaluate full-time and adjunct CTE faculty, including actively assisting with the recruitment, selection, assignment, and contracting of faculty within the division.
Advocate for and support faculty as they fulfill their roles overseeing the quality and rigor of SCC courses and programs.
Monitor faculty load; assign courses to CTE faculty.
Assist CTE faculty in planning his/her individual professional development activities designed to help him/her achieve his/her highest potential.
Promote and foster open communication among all instructional staff, both full-time and adjunct, credit and non-credit, which includes conducting divisional and/or inter-departmental meetings on a regular basis.
Assist the Department Chairs to be effective instructional leaders, collaborating with them to create course schedules in a timely manner and to mentor faculty in their departments so they understand and participate in assessment and other activities that support student learning.
Ensure academic departments in CTE meet regularly according to the established schedule to discuss critical topics such as accreditation, assessment, program review, recruitment, retention, etc.
Work closely and collaboratively with the Director of High School Relations, area high school faculty and administrators to promote seamless connections for high school curricular offerings and SCC programs.
Work collaboratively with the VPAA, program faculty, and other personnel to develop and maintain articulation agreements.
Work closely with program faculty, Student Affairs, the Director of Marketing and other personnel to promote CTE programs.
Collaborate with other administrators in effectively and appropriately handling student complaints according to the provisions and recommendations of the Administrative Guidelines, Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and other appropriate college policies.
Work with SCC's Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) to ensure that the division credit programs meet the applicable rules and regulations established by the State Department, the U.S. Department of Education for Professional and Technical programs, the Iowa Department of Education, and the Higher Learning Commission.
Work with faculty and staff to actively promote a positive image for the college.
Represent the college to the Association of the Iowa Community College Vocational/Technical Deans and Directors.
Represent the college in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, legislators, business and industry, labor, other educational institutions and the community we serve.
Serve on the President's Cabinet.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Required Qualifications:
Earned Master's Degree in a technical, professional, or education field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning; doctorate preferred.
Minimum of three years higher education leadership, planning, and supervisory experience required, including supervision of staff, budgets, and programs.
Teaching experience in postsecondary education; preferably in CTE or educational field.
Experience with curriculum development.
Demonstrated experience with academic assessment strategies to promote teaching and learning excellence.
Knowledge of computer software applications, specifically Microsoft Office programs; ability to learn and develop competency in SCC's administrative software (Ellucian).
Strong human relations and interpersonal skills, including the ability to resolve student and faculty/staff concerns effectively.
Proven ability to build and maintain a highly functioning team; ability to work with a team to develop and implement a plan, evaluate progress toward goals and take corrective action as necessary.
Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and perform with a high level of personal and professional integrity and ethics.
Documented success in building and sustaining partnerships and collaborative agreements with internal and external stakeholders, including business and industry.
Demonstrated experience with the effective utilization of current teaching innovations and multiple teaching methods; familiarity and experience with the use of technology in support of teaching and learning.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize, make sound decisions, and to adjust personal work schedule to effectively fulfill the requirements of the position.
Working knowledge of higher education policies, practices, and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using a Learning Management System, especially Canvas.
Experience with programmatic and institutional accreditation processes.
Experience in working with collective bargaining.
Experience with selecting, mentoring, evaluating, and developing faculty.
Knowledge of national and state policies related to funding of Career and Technical Education.
Experience with grant writing and managing a grant funded project.
Physical Demands:
The Dean of Career & Technical Education will be assigned to the West Burlington Campus and must have the ability and mobility to work from other locations when assigned, and to regularly visit other areas throughout the college district and state. Must be able to work on a basis of "available as work demands" in addition to a fixed schedule, which may include evenings and weekends. In addition, the individual in this position will actively promote a positive image for the college district.
