Summary: The Oral Maxillofacial Surgery dental officer serves as a practicing dental specialist who performs the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Basic Requirements:A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine from an accredited school.Completion of a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience.Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States.Preferred Experience:Surgical management of complex patients with TMJ disorders, soft tissue infections, osteoradionecrosis, medication-related osteonecrosis, dentofacial deformities, obstructive sleep apnea, oral and maxillofacial pathology, and dental implant surgical techniques.Willingness to teach and mentor R5 and R6 OMFS trainees.Previous VA experience within residency or post-residency.Requirements:Have successfully completed an American Dental Association (ADA) approved residency program in oral maxillofacial surgery.
Physical Requirements:Applicants must meet physical standards for the position, including a physical examination prior to placement. This is a designated drug testing position.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:Conduct oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity.Diagnose and manage pathological or irregular oral conditions.Administer anesthesia and sedation procedures as required.Perform surgical procedures on patients with various oral and maxillofacial conditions.Work Schedule:Mon-Fri, 8:00am-4:30pm
