Title: Deputy Division Chief - Public Interest DivisionDivision:Public InterestBureau:Public InterestThe Public Interest Division includes seven Bureaus: Antitrust, Civil Rights, Disability Rights, Public Utilities, Special Litigation, Tobacco Enforcement, and Workplace Rights. With approximately 60 attorneys across its seven Bureaus, the Division investigates and litigates cases involving serious or persistent violations of law and conducts affirmative work on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General. The Division also represents state agencies and officials in high-profile, complex litigation challenging the constitutionality of state statutes. Attorneys in the Division frequently work in collaboration with colleagues from other state attorney general offices, including in coordinated litigation regarding federal policymaking that impacts Illinois residents. The Division monitors and proposes legislation on a wide range of subject matter, such as worker protection, civil rights, gun safety regulations, reproductive healthcare, and immigrant rights. Additionally, the Division conducts outreach and partners with other governmental entities, community groups, and public interest advocacy organizations.
Responsibilities: A Deputy Division Chief assists the Division Chief in the management and supervision of the Division's federal and state court litigation docket. The Deputy Chief also supervises policy initiatives, reviews proposed legislation, and interacts with constituents, government entities, and community groups regarding issues relevant to the Division. The Deputy Chief supervises the attorneys and support staff in their civil investigations and affirmative and defensive lawsuits on behalf of the Office and its clients. The Deputy Chief maintains his or her own caseload and performs administrative functions necessary to the operation of the Division.
Qualifications: Candidates must be licensed and in good standing in the State of Illinois at the time of application. At minimum, candidates should have at least seven years of significant litigation experience. Candidates with strong analytical and writing skills, complex litigation, class action, and/or government enforcement experience is desirable. Supervisory experience preferred.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
