Development Accounting Supervisor Department: Financial Operations

Description
The Development Accounting Supervisor is responsible for period-end close process for properties under development, preparing construction draws for development projects, preparing schedules for internal and external auditors and other special projects as assigned.
This position will work closely with internal departments and external vendors.
The Development Accounting Supervisor will be responsible for collaborating closely with other accounting teams when properties transition to operations.
Critical Duties: Responsible for all accounting and reporting duties related to communities under development, including, but not limited to: monthly draws, pre-development cost reports, job cost coding review, project set up, etc.
Main point of contact for development managers, lenders, contractors, and university construction/accounting partners to facilitate timely processing of draw documentation to meet contractual funding and payment requirements.
Read and understand development agreements and ground leases to ensure compliance with all requirements for reporting and schedule.
Collaborate with internal team to complete period-end close process for development entities, including, but not limited to: review of general ledger and preparation of period-end reports, journal entries, bank reconciliations, etc.
Prepare budgets for development fee revenue, capitalized interest, depreciation, salaries for pre-development, and other items as assigned.
Essential Duties: (Other duties may be assigned) Assist in managing renovation budgets and monthly renovation reporting.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
Prepare support schedules and miscellaneous reports for internal or external use.
Reconcile pre-development balances with job cost reports.
Prepare development to operations transition workbook.
Understand the difference between what and when items should be capitalized vs expensed in accordance with GAAP.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisor responsibilities, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Coach, train and develop a team while managing the workflow and prioritization of projects and ensuring on-time execution and completion.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required, 4+ years accounting experience, preferably in development or construction accounting.
Certificates/Licenses: N/A Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of: GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley preferred.
Skill in: Microsoft Office Suite with proficiency in Excel.
