JOB SUMMARY:
Performs inspection, maintenance and repairs on heavy duty vehicles such as trucks, busses and trailers. Responsible for diesel engines, transmissions, brake systems (air and hydraulic), electrical troubleshooting, steering, heating and air conditioning and cooling systems, truck mounted hydraulic systems (lifts and hoists), bus electric wheelchair lifts and truck mounted refrigeration units (Thermo- King).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Diagnose heavy duty vehicle failures and provide immediate and long-term corrective action. Involves researching defective mechanically- controlled items/parts, instructional information to complete the repair process when needed. This entails logical and extensive troubleshooting and referring to technical manuals, technical library and the CCMS system while utilizing a systematic approach.Diagnose and repair diesel engines (truck and refrigeration units) using the on and off board diagnostic equipment to provide long term corrective action.
Diagnose and repair pneumatic systems on heavy duty vehicles. This can be either brake system or on board truck mounted accessories. Repair / manufacture hydraulic hoses and cylinders as needed either on the vehicle or mounted as an accessory.
Diagnose and repair electrical / electronic systems on heavy duty vehicles. Can involve multiple systems through interlock safety devices. Involves using scanners, meters and schematics and can be either on board or truck mounted accessories.
Perform preventative maintenance/ repair work on hydraulic truck mounted equipment such as lift gates, compressors, pumps and wheelchair lifts e.g. lubricate, change fluids, change filters, adjust as needed, etc. Also provide maintenance on truck mounted refrigeration units.
Reports all materials used in performance of repairs on work orders. Document all labor used in performance of repairs on work orders, parts from the storeroom for materials needed to perform PMs and repairs.
Change or repair pneumatic tires on equipment.
Perform modifications to vehicles as directed.
Maintains shop cleanliness.
Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SCOPE:
Includes all facets of vehicle repairs including gasoline, diesel, or electric drives. Our scope also includes the maintenance and repair/replacement of all truck mounted equipment and tires used on these vehicles.
EDUCATION:
High school degree or GED is required.
Technical school is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Multi-year experience repair/ maintenance of transit / over-the-road busses or trucks.
Multi-year experience removing, cleaning, repairing, reinstalling and adjusting engine emission, drivelin and electrical / electronic components.
Multi-year experience troubleshooting and repairing braking, suspension, steering and exhaust systems.
Multi-year experience working with pneumatic tires, repairing, mounting and dismounting.
Must have or be able to obtain MVAC 609 refrigerant recovery certification within the first 90 days.
Must have or be able to obtain a valid ASE T-4 or H-4 heavy duty certification within the first 90 days.
Must have or be able to obtain a Class "B" CDL license with a passenger endorsement within the first 90 days.
