This assignment posting is for an Agency Worker opportunity with Dotdash Meredith. The Agency Worker is paid by a staffing agency employer. Agency Workers will receive a W2 from the staffing agency reporting their earnings for tax purposes. PEOPLE is hiring a Digital News Writer, Crime, to cover crime Mondays to Fridays, during the set hours of 9 AM to 5 PM PST. Guaranteed 40 hours a week. This is a fast-paced news operation covering crime news (homicides, robberies, kidnappings, sexual abuse and harassment, child abuse, mass killings and celebrity offenders), criminal justice developments and crime history. The writer must be able to produce a high volume of original content and have the skills needed to edit content written by other contributors. They should also feel comfortable pitching new ideas, scouring social media platforms for stories and pivoting between various content types. They should have knowledge of libel and defamation laws and have access to reliable sources in law enforcement, criminal defense and the court system. At least two years of experience writing for a news website in a high-velocity environment required. Experience at a national news brand preferred. Location: LA or Remote Hours: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. PT Pay rate: $35/hour
