Description: Put your leadership skills to work as director of one of the country's most innovative unified court systems. The Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) is seeking a dynamic, pioneering, and experienced director to oversee its daily operations. With a new Chief Justice incoming in 2025 and an updated case management system in the works, Kentucky's court system is entering a new era and is ready for its next leader.
The AOC is charged with supporting the activities of nearly 3,400 court system employees and 413 elected justices, judges, and circuit court clerks across Kentucky's 120 counties. The agency executes the Judicial Branch's $462 million annual budget. This includes developing and implementing policies for the Kentucky Court of Justice which has earned a national reputation for embracing cutting-edge solutions to ensure equal justice for all.
The director of the AOC is an executive-level position, responsible for the operation of the judiciary through leadership, planning, direction, and supervision. The AOC serves the court system and the public. Under the direction of the Supreme Court of Kentucky, the director oversees the offices of Audits, Finance & Administration, General Counsel, Government Affairs, Information & Technology, Programs & Personnel, Communications and Statewide Programs. This position plays instrumental roles in the administration of court facilities statewide and nationally renowned programs including Pretrial Services, Specialty Courts and Family and Juvenile Services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Organizational Leadership: Ensure the AOC and the Kentucky Court of Justice have a clear mission/vision and shared values.Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Kentucky Supreme Court to develop strategic planning initiatives for the judiciary. Continuously engage with the Supreme Court on initiatives and policies that positively impact the administration of Kentucky state courts. Ensure that court operations and judicial administrative needs are identified, evaluated, and incorporated into appropriate short- and long-range plans. Establish priorities and secure resources to accomplish those priorities.Government Relations: Meet with public officials, respond to inquiries and advocate for the agency's needs. Identify and address financial and operational problems related to legislative action and promote legislative improvements. Recommend measures to respond to, modify, and meet Executive or Legislative Branch requests for budget reductions.Operations Administration: Build, review and approve proposed budgets submitted by the judiciary. Identify operations that can benefit from new technology and procedures to improve court efficiency and ensure the implementation of technological enhancements.
