Job Summary:

The Director of Co-op and Career Center Satellite oversees a satellite office of the Career Center physically located within a college and the co-op program for all University students. Provides strategic guidance and professional development to the staff for co-op and career services within the college. Works closely as a part of and in concert with the Career Center leadership team.
Additional Department Summary:

Manages the Office of Cooperative Education and the Satellite Career Center in the College of Engineering. Collaborates with faculty, staff, students, employers, and alumni in order to ensure students receive comprehensive career services and appropriate employment opportunities. Provides leadership, supervision, and budget administration of the daily operation of the Co-Op Program, the Professional Internship Program, and the Engineering Career Center Satellite and its team of staff members. Serves as a connector between the Career Center, the Division of Student Life, and the College of Engineering. Communicates with the Executive Director, the Assistant Vice President, and the Vice President of Student Life, along with the faculty, Associate Dean, and Dean in the College of Engineering to ensure alignment of goals and excellence in services. Works closely with other Career Center Leadership Team members to ensure collaboration between the satellite office/co-op program and the main Career Center. Develops programs and coordinates the placement of undergraduate and graduate students with employers for the purpose of enhancing classroom studies and providing students with experience directly related to their academic majors. Oversees student recruitment and orientation, job development, student counseling, interaction with constituencies on campus, and on-site employer visitation as a student progresses through the program to ensure the desired educational and program outcomes. Establishes qualifications needed by students, defining responsibilities of participating students and employers, and setting up procedures necessary for operating the program. Ensures the Co-op office and Satellite Career Center utilize the proper technology to best serve University of Alabama students, alumni, employers and staff members. Identifies employment trends and situates these trends within a broader national context. Collaborates with the Career Center's Information Systems Business Analyst and the Division's Director of Assessment in order to make certain we are properly measuring student success. Works closely with the Employer Development Manager to expand employer engagement across the school of Engineering. Possesses knowledge of University Alabama educational programs, student demographics, and key campus partners and effectively utilizes this information when engaging employers. Communicates a relevant University of Alabama story to employers that demonstrates a positive ROI for their recruiting efforts at the Capstone. Fosters strong connections between employers and the greater University of Alabama academic community. Visits sites to prospective and current employers with some overnight travel required. Completes required training that is related to laws and regulations, that creates a more hospitable and respectful workplace; and safer work environment. Holding staff accountable for completion of required training. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of career advising, employer relations, and/or co-op experience; OR master's degree and four (4) years of career advising, employer relations, and/or co-op experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of professional experience in a formal or structured university cooperative education program, professional practice program, student services, or career services experience; OR master's degree and four (4) years of professional experience in a formal or structured university cooperative education program, professional practice program, student services, or career services experience.
Skills and Knowledge:

Experience leading a team and have strong organizational and multi-tasking management skills. Highly developed interpersonal, human relations, and communications skills. Ability to develop and sustain robust relationships with constituents. Knowledge of career related technology and standard software applications. Demonstrated commitment to expanding multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through demonstrating self-awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
Preferred Qualifications:

Direct experience in a university Career Center and/or Co-Op Program.
