Job Summary
Responsible for developing, implementing, and administering the Memorial Hermann Health System (MHHS) Corporate Compliance Program; managing the compliance auditing and monitoring program and the resolution of complex compliance matters; and performing other System-level compliance activities as required, including policy and procedure development, compliance education and training, risk assessment, compliance investigations, and regulatory research related to all aspects of Memorial Hermann's operations.
Typically reports to AVP, Corporate Compliance or SVP, Chief Compliance Officer.Job Description Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare or related field required.
Master's degree or other advanced degree in a related business, legal, or healthcare field preferred (e.g., Master of Business Administration (MBA), Juris Doctorate (JD), Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA), accounting/finance, nursing or other clinical field, etc.).
Licenses/Certifications: Certification or licensure in one of the following preferred: Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), State Bar License, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Registered Nurse (RN), or an equivalent professional certification or licensure in area of expertise.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Six (6) years of experience in compliance or healthcare related operations, legal, auditing, consulting, or the equivalent combination of experience.
Three (3) years of experience in the healthcare industry preferred.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Experience with managing and developing staff.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to determine areas of compliance risk and develop appropriate responses.
Ability to analyze and interpret healthcare laws and regulations, including Medicare/Medicaid regulations and requirements.
Strong project management, analytical, and problem solving skills.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to interact and build relationships with all levels of the organization.
Principal Accountabilities Directs the development, implementation, and administration of the Memorial Hermann Health System (MHHS) Corporate Compliance Program.
Works with AVP, Corporate Compliance and SVP, Corporate Compliance Officer to develop and implement the annual Corporate Compliance Work Plan.
Plans, coordinates, and manages multiple compliance reviews and audit activities related to all aspects of Memorial Hermann's operations.
Oversees and conducts compliance investigations, including conducting interviews and working with legal counsel and government agencies.
Oversees administration of the Compliance Helpline, including monitoring key metrics and managing the review and resolution of reported concerns.
Conducts regulatory research and provides guidance on complex compliance issues, including Medicare and Medicaid requirements.
Oversees the development and implementation of compliance training and education programs and delivers compliance training to Memorial Hermann's workforce and other affiliated parties.
Assesses current and emerging compliance risks and develops appropriate risk mitigation and corrective action strategies to protect the organization.
Oversees the development and maintenance of compliance policies and procedures and the Memorial Hermann Standards of Conduct.
Prepares and delivers reports and presentations for various System-level committees and executive personnel.
Hires, develops, supervises, and evaluates department personnel.
Ensures that revenue, expenses, contribution margin and FTE's meet or exceed budget; prepares and submits budget and related reports; forecasts and accurately projects expenses; takes corrective action to address negative variances; identifies and proposes capital budget items appropriately.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
