Job Description
The Director for ADA & Accessibility Services reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Equity and Accessibility. The Director for ADA & Accessibility Services serves as the institutional compliance officer for the university to ensure Virginia Tech complies with Title I and Title II of the ADA, Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and other federal, state, and local laws related to individuals with disabilities as applicable. The position serves as the ADA Coordinator and the Section 504 Coordinator for the university. In this capacity, the Director for ADA & Accessibility Services provides leadership, management, oversight, and implementation of comprehensive ADA compliance and education program within the university community. The Director oversees matters related to the interactive process under Title I of the ADA; physical and programmatic access under Title II of the ADA; provides advisory oversight to the Director for Civil Rights Compliance who has delegated authority to manage the university's Section 504 grievance procedures.. The Director works closely with university senior management on matters including developing, administering, and updating policies, procedures, practices, guidelines, and processes to assure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended. The Director operates with a fair amount of independence and serves as the campus expert for issues relating to the ADA; addresses issues regarding accessibility and provides options to the university community to ameliorate barriers; and provides leadership to insure inclusion of individuals with disabilities in all university activities.

The Director for ADA and Accessibility Services provides supervision and leadership for the ADA Accommodation Specialists to ensure compliance with the ADA and the EEOC regulations that govern the accommodation and interactive processes; the Campus ADA Architect to ensure compliance with the ADA Standards for Accessible Design and Title II of the ADA; the OEA Case Manager to ensure all interactions with employees and the public are compliant with the ADA, Section 504, and Section 508 including intake, documents, and records are maintained in compliance with the ADA and other pertinent laws and regulations; and supervision for the Section 508 and Digital Accessibility Officer to ensure compliance with Title II of the ADA including effective communication for employees and visitors, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (2017) and FCC 255 as it relates to electronic and digital accessibility. The position provides consultation and guidance to departments responsible for providing and reasonable accommodations to students in academic, programmatic, and housing situations to ensure the university is meeting Section 504 requirements.
As a member of the Associate Vice President for Equity and Accessibility's leadership team, the Director participates in strategic planning and university wide initiatives. The Director supervises and provides leadership to staff who impact ADA and Accessibility Services across the institution. The Director responds to the EEOC and/or DOJ (and other federal agencies as appropriate) reviews or requests for information on behalf of Virginia Tech.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree in psychology, Special Education, Rehabilitation, Human Resources, Management, Public Administration or other related field of study or education and experience that equates to an advanced degree.
Extensive professional experience working with individuals with disabilities.
Proficiency in the analysis and application of Title I and Title II of the ADA and other relevant federal and state ADA disability laws, and regulations.
Knowledge of the ADA standards for accessible design.
Experience working with individuals with a broad range of disabilities.
Strong professional experience working with the implementation of the ADA or Section 504.

Preferred Qualifications
Juris Doctorate (JD) or related terminal degree.
Experience as ADA/Disability Services Coordinator with demonstrated experience leading disability compliance programs.
Experience with accessibility/barrier removal planning.
Experience with short term and long term project planning.
Knowledge of various alternative formats and/or assistive technologies that enable individuals with disabilities to communicate, participate, and perform essential functions and/or work related tasks.
Professional ADA certification.
Demonstrated professional history in successful and progressively responsible administrative roles that included experience in strategic planning, program assessment and policy development.
Experience successfully leading professional staff who provide services to support compliance with the ADA.
Familiarity with disability support agencies and professional resources.
Experience working across a large, complex enterprise.
Experience implementing or overseeing Section 504 compliance programs in a higher education setting.
