Objective
This regular and full-time position provides effective program leadership in Greene County to determine program priorities and deliver and evaluate high-quality programs. This position serves as the council designee in providing administrative management and supervision of district programming and staff. This position reports directly to the County Extension Council. Work hours are variable, including nights and weekends. Requirements include a positive team leader who works with office staff and clients to deliver successful programs.
Responsibilities
Leadership/Supervision
Utilize a proactive approach with the council in overall operations, including the development of programs and relevant agendas.
Provide supervision of county staff and initiate strategies for their professional development, facilitate staff meetings, and complete annual reviews with the personnel committee.
Hire and onboard new staff under the guidance of the personnel committee
Offer comprehensive and complex programming to support long-term change, matching relevant information and programs with audience needs
Maintain an efficient and responsive county office, conduct periodic county needs assessments and secure resources
Set goals related to reaching under-served and under-represented audiences
Work with the Office Manager to oversee building maintenance and property management with the Building and Grounds Committee
Regularly and closely monitor revenue and expenses to stay within annual budget established by council with the Budget Committee
Use standard policies and procedures regarding county business operations and council relations
Seek out and establish community partnerships that contribute to reaching Extension goals and mission
Generate additional monies for projects, programs and overall Extension fund.
Adapt to changing problems, problem solve complex factors, providing initiative and ingenuity in areas where there is little precedent.
May represent Greene County and/or County Directors at statewide special projects or assignments
Program Delivery
Provide programmatic support and guidance to county program coordinators, including County Youth and 4-H Coordinator, Office Manager, Youth Coordinator, and Summer Assistant.
Consult with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Program Specialists on current issues
Manages local data collection in line with program area requirement
Maintain appropriate records of educational activities and report to county in annual stakeholders' report
Serve as project manager for agricultural and natural resources and community development educational events that occur as part of the comprehensive program in Greene County or across county lines as approved by council
Initiate strategies to develop and manage volunteer networks
Secure program sponsorship through appropriate fundraising efforts including grant applications and management
Report work in a monthly report to the Extension Council
Foster and contribute to a positive work climate with colleagues, advisory group audiences and partners
Support and serve as resource for Greene County 4-H Foundation Board
Other duties as determined in conjunction with the Extension Council
Marketing and Public Relations
Promote Greene County Extension and Outreach programs, events and resources to area media sources.
Positively represent Greene County Extension to an array of community partners
Customer and Client Service
Assist various advisory and commodity groups and other partnering organizations
Work with staff and volunteers to answer consumer questions
Recruit and train volunteers in various Extension program materials
Professional Development
Develop and follow a personal professional development plan consistent with personal and organizational goals
Participate in regional and/or state Extension program activities as appropriate and needed
Maintain positive working relationships with all county and state Extension staff
Qualifications
Qualifications
Team player, dependable, self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision
Four year BA or BS degree
At least three years of professional experience
Content knowledge in at least one field: agriculture and natural resources, human sciences, youth development, community, and economic development
Successful Child Protection Safety Policy (CPSP) background screening
Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
Teaching and/or facilitation experience preferred
Management/supervisory experience preferred
Resident of Greene County preferred
Job Skills

Experience in organizing activities, events, and in working with groups
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Current computer and organizational skills
Problem-solving skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
Self-starter – able to initiate work without direct supervision
