POSITION DETAILS Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, the Director of Community Standards oversees all matters related to educating students, faculty and staff about issues involving the code of conduct and expectations for a safe and healthy campus environment. This includes ensuring that the college follows institutional/CUNY policies and State/Federal laws as they pertain to students' rights and responsibilities. The Director of Community Standards will:
Assess campus needs, and utilize this information to develop and facilitate annual goals regarding the implementation of policy and programming to support community standards initiatives produced by the Division of Student Affairs;Create and lead cross-divisional partnerships focused on educating the campus community about resolving conflicts with and amongst students;Oversee the implementation and facilitation of workshops, seminars, lectures and/or symposia as they relate to student rights and responsibilities, crisis response, behavioral intervention, campus/CUNY policy, etc. and ensure that these efforts target and reach applicable campus stakeholders;Serve as the divisional liaison for all matters involving student policy violations, and work with Public Safety, academic departments, student support services units, and other areas of the college to investigate and mediate or adjudicate these matters;Coordinate with Public Safety to implement student safety measures;Oversee communication between the Office of Student Affairs and Office of Compliance/Diversity & Affirmative Action and/or the Office of Legal Affairs for matters involving student policy violations;Record all matters involving student policy violations and provide an ongoing summary and assessment of these issues;Present disciplinary cases before the college's Faculty Student Disciplinary Committee (FSDC);Work with the college's Academic Integrity Officer to mediate/adjudicate cases regarding academic infractions (cheating, plagiarism, etc.);Serve as co-Chair of the Student Concern Assessment and Response (CARe) Team, and lead the implementation of CUNY's Medical Withdrawal and Re-entry Policy as needed;Oversee communication with CUNY Central Office about all conduct-related matters, and ensure that compliance requests are satisfied within specified timelines;Collaborate with members of the Division of Student Affairs to annually update the Student Handbook;Research and respond to student inquiries and concerns related to academic and non-academic matters;Provide support for large-scale college-wide events including New Student Orientation, student leadership trainings, Commencement, etc.;Perform related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to sustain communication with diverse groups, anticipate problems, reconcile conflicts, and maintain a strong philosophical base for student engagement.Knowledge of confidentiality protocols, FERPA, Title VI, VII, and IX, and the Clery Act.A student-centered philosophy and knowledge of restorative justice frameworks.CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW Leads initiatives to develop and implement improvements to management and administrative practices and systems.
Serves as a consultant to management in investigating current situations and in identifying the scope of the problem and potential solutions.Conducts studies and reviews to design organizational or systems improvements, developing appropriate measurements and goals.Serves as a change management leader in implementing major organizational or systems improvements; develops and executes implementation plans, reporting results and issues to management.Develops and implements training, communications, ongoing task forces and teams, and other support to maintain and build on results.Performs related duties as assigned.CUNY TITLE Higher Education Officer

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS $96,602 - $115,333. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
