Our Contract Management team is currently seeking a Director of Contract Management in our Worcester, MA location in a hybrid work arrangement.
This is a full-time, exempt role.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The successful candidate will work closely with sourcing professionals, leaders across business lines, contract management leaders, and the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) to draft and negotiate commercial contracts as an integral part of Hanover's Strategic Sourcing team.
Under the leadership of the AVP, Contract Management Lead, the individual will help improve and streamline the contracting process for a variety of commercial agreements, including Master Services Agreements, Trial Service Agreements, PO Terms and Conditions, SaaS and license agreements, and other specialized contractual documents.
Insurance experience is not required, but a desire and ability to develop a solid understanding of the company's operations and priorities to complement the effectiveness of the role is expected.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL: Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements focused on the appropriate risk calibration and an emphasis on timely completion.Collaborate with AVP, Contract Management Lead and the OGC to update contract templates to optimize the contract cycle time.Assist in the improvement of playbooks, standard operating procedures, and associated contract documents for the Strategic Sourcing team.Advise on the continuous improvement program in collaboration with AVP, Contract Management Lead and the OGC to fine-tune escalations and risk thresholds to improve both the efficiency and quality of contracting support.Demonstrate thought leadership and initiative and be able to work efficiently, effectively, and collaboratively while managing multiple deadlines.Contribute to developing and maintaining ongoing relationships, credibility, and accountability with leaders across the organization and the business units served.Support supplier management activities as required.Engage in information-gathering discussions with sourcing professionals and responsible business partners to provide advice regarding complex contractual risk issues requiring business decisions.Effectively review and negotiate the necessary volume of agreements to meet the Strategic Sourcing and business teams' goals.Assist and support the evolution of playbooks, standard operating procedures, and supporting contracting documents.Assist in streamlining the contract lifecycle to support the goals of the Strategic Sourcing team.WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY: Bachelor's degree (Juris Doctorate a plus) required with 6+ years' experience in document and contract review of commercial contracts (or JD + 3 years' experience).Able to efficiently review, negotiate, and drive to completion a substantial number of commercial contracts.Able to engineer new processes.Integrates and balances big-picture concerns with day-to-day activities.Knows how to accomplish and resolve matters through formal organizational channels and through informal networks.Capable of practically applying technical expertise to real business problems and opportunities.Continues to develop in-depth knowledge and functional expertise in select professional disciplines.Surfaces problems and issues before projects become derailed.Addresses business partner needs by involving the right people and resources at the right time, understanding the ultimate objectives, being responsive, and developing more creative solutions.Excellent written and oral communication, contract drafting and editing, and negotiation skills.Strong analytical ability, critical and strategic thinking skills, attention to detail, and project management skills to ensure appropriate execution.Demonstrates The Hanover's core values of collaboration, accountability, respect, and empowerment.Experience with property and casualty independent agency channel distribution matters, or a demonstrated capability to develop an expertise in comparable topics is a significant plus.CAREER DEVELOPMENT: It's not just a job, it's a career, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
