Job Description: Southern Utah University is looking to fill two positions on our major gifts team. A Director of Development should be a self-motivated, results-driven, donor/customer-centered professional ready to be part of a dynamic team and institution at an exciting time in its history. After the historic appointment of a dynamic and beloved new president, the Advancement team is in the planning stages of a transformative comprehensive campaign and is looking to expand our team with experienced fundraisers or professionals from other industries who have a proven track record of managing relationships, negotiating, and closing.
Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President of Advancement and supported by a seasoned team of fundraising and administrative professionals, the Director of Development is responsible for developing and managing relationships long-term philanthropic relationships with alumni, parents, and community members to enhance connection and loyalty to the University and its mission through philanthropy. This position works alongside deans, department chairs, and other faculty and campus partners to develop and implement key fundraising strategies, utilizing industry best practices, that result in increased revenue.
Success indicators include completing a minimum number of donor visits per month, as well as working collaboratively with the team to set and meet metric-driven solicitation and fundraising goals. As SUU prepares for a comprehensive fundraising campaign, key priorities will include, but not be limited to, capital projects, academic and non-academic program funds, endowments, and scholarships.
SUU is located in scenic southern Utah, where access to some of the world's best outdoor activities abound, including close proximity to the Mighty Five National Parks. Candidates located in the Salt Lake City area will have the option to work remotely.
Date of first consideration: 04/15/2023 Duties and Responsibilities: Strategically manage a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects capable of making gifts of $5,000+ annually and financial commitments of greater than $25,000. To achieve this, the Director will understand the process of identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors. Work closely with Deans and other Advancement staff to develop and execute an aggressive fundraising program to meet the strategic priorities of the university. Located in the central Advancement Office, the DoD will work with Deans of a college/school, faculty, as well as other staff and external constituencies to achieve the fundraising priorities of the college/school, as assigned. Meet key performance metrics set during the annual metric-driven goal setting process, including visits, proposals, solicitations, qualifications, and dollars raised. Document contact reports in SUU's Banner database system and create an annual work plan. She/he will participate in other duties and activities of a fast-paced donor-centric advancement team including annual giving, donor pipeline development, and stewardship events. Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree required. CFRE preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated initiative and experience in relationship building with high-net-worth individuals or asking for major gifts through face-to-face solicitations. A sound knowledge of fundraising principles, ethics, and best practices in campaign planning and execution. The ability to represent the University with a high degree of professionalism and integrity. The ability to articulate a compelling case for support of the University and interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong relationships among faculty, staff, volunteers, and donors. Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability and desire to work in a small team environment. Knowledge of constituent relationship management databases, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other campus software.
