The DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Ocean Point in Sunny Isles, Florida is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Director of Engineering to lead the overall maintenance operations for the resort. This position has overall responsibility for overseeing the Chief Engineer and staff of five, maintaining the building, grounds, and overall physical plant with a continuous focus on the safety, security, and protection of the asset. The Director of Engineering will be accountable for managing the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance program, and the day-to-day operations of the engineering department. This individual will be responsible for maintaining brand standards and all regulatory requirements.
The Director of Engineering position will report to the hotel General Manager for day-to-day operations and for oversight of infrastructure and internal systems to include managing the budget, capital projects, the bidding process, preventative maintenance and preventative maintenance contracts, the position will also report to the hotel's two associations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Manage the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems by all Standard Operating Procedures and regulatory requirements.Work directly with the hotel General Manager and Ocean Point Maintenance Association to effectively manage controllable expenses such as vendor agreements, service agreements, inventories, tools and equipment and utilities.Oversee the RFP process, selecting and managing approved projects/initiatives.Work with hotel leadership and Ocean Point Maintenance Association to determine how Engineering is performing against budget and highlight areas of concern.Ensure that the hotel team receives ongoing training regarding security and life safety procedures.In conjunction with the hotel General Manager and Ocean Point Maintenance Association, develop and execute an engineering operating strategy that is aligned with the property's overall business strategy.In collaboration with the hotel General Manager and Ocean Point Maintenance Association, develop and then manage the engineering department budget.Oversee the execution of both short and long-term preventative maintenance programs and establish a 10-year asset protection plan for the resort.Review financial reports and statements to determine how the department is performing against budget.Address potential areas of concerns and proactively propose solutions to the hotel as well as owners' associations.Utilize effective project management skills to successfully plan and oversee construction projects and/or renovations to ensure timely completion of projects within approved budgetary guidelines.Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.Maintain property life safety systems (sprinkler systems and alarm systems).Ensure building and equipment licenses, permits and certifications are current.Oversee day-to-day maintenance operations at the resort.Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical/mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing) and other hotel equipment as needed.Oversee day-to-day activities and work of the maintenance team.Review maintenance problems, complaints, and work orders to prioritize and schedule work.Ensure signed vendor agreement and Certificate of Insurance (COI) procedures are in place before the commencement of work.Coordinate with local health, safety, fire, and building inspectors to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.Ensure hotel pools and hot tubs are properly maintained.Oversee security and loss prevention of the hotel.Maintain building exterior areas not serviced by a contractor or vendor (lawn care, painting).Complete maintenance logs as required.Strict adherence to OSHA guidelines to ensure a safe working environment (lockout/tag out, MSDS sheets, etc.).Provide analyses of performing various projects through outsourcing versus in-house.Hands-on approach in oversight of the activities.Perform other duties as assigned.Requirements: 8+ years' experience in the engineering and maintenance area; technical training in HVAC-R/Electrical/Plumbing.Previous hotel and/or similar industry engineering leadership experience.Prior experience in a Condo hotel environment is a plus.Experience using Quore is highly desired.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.Reliable with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure.Certified Pool Operator.Working knowledge of kitchen equipment/refrigeration preferred.Working knowledge of fire protection and life safety systems.Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.Familiar with common computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Office).We've got you covered: Benefits & Perks Medical Insurance with Company-Funded HRA.Vision Insurance.Flexible Spending Accounts.Wide-Array of Supplemental Insurance Offerings.Paid Time Off Programs.Employee Assistance Program.401K Plan – Traditional & Roth Options with Employer Match.Hotel Discount Travel Program for Associates & Family.Exclusive Associate Discounts – Travel, Entertainment, & Retail.Training and Development Programs.Complimentary Parking for All Team Members.Transportation Perks for Full-Time Team Members.Colwen Hotels is an equal opportunity employer.
