Job Description Summary As the Director of Engineering, you will serve as the onsite leader responsible for the overall building, equipment, and grounds maintenance of our hotel. Your primary objective will be to ensure the optimal functioning of all hotel systems, equipment, and facilities to enhance guest satisfaction, control expenses, and maintain product quality. Leading a team of engineers and maintenance staff, you will oversee maintenance operations, manage budgets, develop preventive maintenance programs, and uphold safety standards. Reporting to the General Manager with dotted line reporting to the Regional Director of Engineering, you will play a crucial role in achieving the hotel's operational goals and maintaining compliance with brand standards.
Job Description Principle duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions) include:
Provide leadership and guidance to the engineering team, setting clear goals and objectives and facilitating training programs.Supervise maintenance operations for all areas of the hotel, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety systems, and more.Manage inventory, purchasing, and department budget to ensure compliance with financial guidelines.Update and enforce engineering policies, procedures, and work orders, ensuring adherence to Sonesta's Brand Standards.Oversee vendor relationships to ensure quality, timely delivery, and cost-effectiveness.Develop and monitor preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms, public spaces, and equipment, ensuring all equipment in the working area is clean and in proper working condition.Maintain 24/7 coverage, including on-call responsibilities.Obtain competitive bids for supplies, work orders, and preventive maintenance programs.Uphold safety, health, and sanitation policies, including those related to HIOSH & OSHA.Execute projects as directed by the General Manager and Regional Director of Engineering.Fill in where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations.Oversee and ensure that engineering policies on employee performance appraisals are followed and completed on a timely basis.Responsible for scheduling labor, reviewing payroll, and forecasting in the engineering department.Requires stamina for standing and strength for lifting moving products.Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.Display daily professional, courteous, attentive, helpful, and positive attitude towards all guests, fellow employees, and managers.Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team to reach common goals.Perform other job duties as requested by supervisors/managers as other job duties may be assigned as needed.Understand Sonesta's company and safety policies and maintain compliance with OSHA and the health department requirements.Qualifications and Skills: Valid Driver's License preferred.Prior experience as an Assistant Chief Engineer, Chief Engineer, or Director of Engineering in a full-service hotel.Demonstrated ability to prioritize guest satisfaction, operational efficiency, and expense control.Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure while multitasking.Excellent budgeting, forecasting, and cost control skills.Proficiency in communication, including written and verbal skills.Familiarity with local laws and ordinances related to engineering and maintenance.Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED required.Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field preferred.CPR/First Aid certification desirable.Knowledge of HVAC & Refrigeration, Plumbing, Electrical experience preferred.Work Environment: Must be able work in a fast-paced environment and tolerate extreme temperatures - i.e., freezers, loading dock.
Physical Demands: Ability to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, pushing, and stooping. Climb ladders of various heights. Must be able to push, pull and lift to 50 pounds. Ability to stand entire shift.
Expected Hours of Work: Hours of operation may vary based upon business needs, a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and overnight hours are required.
Travel: Some travel may be required.
Pay Range: $132,500- $145,500- Base pay offered may vary depending on various factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and job specific/overall experience.
