America's Test Kitchen is seeking a Director of Finance who can manage, oversee, and perform duties related to the financial management of the organization. This person must be able to maintain and provide financial data and information about all Company activities in order to assist management, the Board of Directors, and other users in making educated economic decisions. You will be accountable for leading the Finance Team in managing the organization's financial systems and processes, forecasting systems and reporting, as well as producing and maintaining the annual budget. You will be responsible for providing leadership and coaching to the Finance Team. The Director of Finance will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Manage and facilitate activities of the finance team ensuring the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and forecasts, and regularly meeting with the CFO to review and defend underlying assumptions of those reports.
Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; oversee all forecasting functions.
Work closely with the company Controller to ensure accuracy of the financial statements and to ensure timely and accurate reviews of the financial and management reports.
Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports.
Competencies and Experience Needed: Commercial Mindset - Demonstrate a commercial mindset and ability to analyze business problems. ATK publishes Books and Magazines, produces TV shows, creates online content and has a B2C subscription business, all of which need to be understood and analyzed. This requires a combination of hard work, curiosity and analytical ability.
Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in-group problem solving situations; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
Communications - Expresses ideas and thoughts effectively, accurately and concisely both verbally in written form; exhibits good listening and comprehension; keeps others adequately informed; selects and uses appropriate communication methods.
Technical skills; the ideal candidate will have a good understanding of accounting, finance, general ledger and forecasting tools. They should be excellent with excel and other similar programs.
Managing People - Includes staff in planning, decision-making, facilitating and process improvement; takes responsibility for subordinates' activities; makes self available to staff; provides regular performance feedback; develops subordinates' skills and encourages growth; solicits and applies customer feedback (internal and external); fosters quality focus in others; improves processes, products, and services.; continually works to improve supervisory skills.
Achievement Focus - Sets and achieves challenging goals; demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles; measures self against standard of excellence; recognizes and acts on opportunities; takes calculated risks to accomplish goals.
Ideal candidates will have 6-8 years experience. Experience earned in a Media or Publishing company is preferred.
Candidates should have experience interacting with leadership at all levels of a company.
This position is located in our Boston, MA office in the Seaport district. It is the expectation that the person in this role will work a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) in the office and 2 days per week remotely.
