The Department of Neurology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is recruiting for a clinician-investigator or physician-scientist to provide leadership in innovative research and clinical care as the Director of the Neuromuscular Program in the Department of Neurology. The successful candidate will be expected to lead the program to new levels of excellence in neuromuscular disorders and to conduct basic, pre-clinical or translational research in neuromuscular disorders.

This is a tenured position, which provides substantial salary support that scales with the academic position and advancement of the candidate. As a clinician-investigator or physician-scientist with recognized excellence in research, the candidate will also be considered for the inaugural Christian Herrmann, Jr., M.D. Endowed Chair. The endowment will provide special financial recognition to the individual selected to support salary, trainee (graduate student, post-doctoral fellow or clinical fellow) education, research, supplies, and other areas related to furthering the mission of the Department of Neurology, the DGSOM, and the campus.

Responsibilities include:
Developing a nationally prominent clinical and/or research program in the areas of neuromuscular medicine.Leading the Neuromuscular Program in the Department of Neurology.Working closely with the neuromuscular fellowship director to lead the ACGME neuromuscular fellowship.Serving as a mentor to graduate students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty.Fostering collaborative relationships and interdisciplinary research teams and encouraging scholarship in the areas of research and treatment related to disorders of muscle and/or nerve. Qualification Requirements: MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent; Candidates must have active extramural research funding that is transferable to UCLA, a strong record of publication and career development in biomedical animal- and/or human-based research, and demonstrated excellence in mentoring. In addition, the candidate must have the ability to anticipate change and implement initiatives to meet the challenges of academic medicine and science, a demonstrated commitment to diversity, and excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with administration, trainees, researchers, clinicians, faculty in other disciplines, and staff. The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment is required.
