Director of Nursing (DON) Position Summary: Plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the Clinical/Nursing Services Department to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Qualifications: Valid California RN license, in good standing, current CPR and BLS certificationsCollege/University degree preferred; five (5) years' experience may substitute for degreeMinimum three (3) years' experience as a supervisor in a hospital or nursing setting preferredMinimum six (6) months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practicesResponsibilities: Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the nursing service department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the nursing care industryDevelops, maintains, and periodically updates written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service departmentEvaluates department processes, making recommendations and implementing compliance and quality improvement policies, programs, and proceduresOutstanding communication (oral and written) skillsLeads by example, working alongside staff members and treating them kindly and professionally at all timesEnsures all clinical/nursing personnel comply with established standardsMaintains and improves the quality of patient care and standards of careInterviews, hires, trains, and manages employeesPlans, assigns, and directs work, conducts reviews, and delivers discipline or rewardsAddresses patient, family, and employee complaints, documenting issues, solutions, and resolving problemsCoordinates care services and the implementation of care plans, ensuring the best quality of life possible for all patients/residentsConducts quality assessments including regulatory compliance rounds in all departments to monitor performance and continuously improve systems, processes, and qualityDevelops staffing plans that assure direct care needs are met, recommending the quantity and types of personnel necessary to maintain compliance with all requirementsMaintains reference database or other training materials (i.e., PDR'S, Regulations, Standards of Practice, etc.)
