Position Summary: The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for managing and directing all nursing services in the long-term care facility. This role ensures the highest standard of care for residents by overseeing nursing staff, developing care plans, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating with other departments. The DON is accountable for maintaining a safe and positive environment for residents and staff alike.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Nursing Leadership & Management Oversee the daily operations of the nursing department, including supervision of nurses, aides, and other healthcare staff.Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and best practices.Ensure adequate staffing by scheduling, recruiting, and retaining qualified nursing staff.Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement training programs for nursing staff. 2. Resident Care Coordinate and manage individualized resident care plans, ensuring they meet the medical, emotional, and psychological needs of residents.Monitor and evaluate resident care and outcomes, making adjustments to care plans as needed.Serve as a primary point of contact for residents and their families, addressing any concerns or questions regarding care.Ensure that resident care meets all regulatory standards and is delivered with compassion and respect. 3. Regulatory Compliance Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including those related to Medicare and Medicaid.Prepare for and oversee facility inspections, audits, and surveys conducted by regulatory agencies.Implement and enforce infection control protocols and other safety measures.Keep accurate records of nursing services, including resident care, staff performance, and incident reports. 4. Budgeting & Financial Management Manage the nursing department budget, monitoring expenses and making cost-effective decisions.Work with the facility administrator and other departments to allocate resources efficiently.Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising the quality of care. 5. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate resident care.Attend and contribute to interdisciplinary team meetings, facility committees, and family meetings as needed.Foster a positive work environment by promoting teamwork, open communication, and professional development. Qualifications: Licensure: Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.Experience: Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership role, preferably in a long-term care setting.Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; additional certifications in geriatric care or long-term care are a plus.Skills: Strong leadership and management skills.
