Nestled in San Francisco's Excelsior neighborhood on a nine-acre campus, the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) is a center of excellence in providing a continuum of care. This includes the Frank Residences, offering assisted living and memory care services; the Jewish Home and Rehabilitation Center, featuring long-term skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, and an acute psychiatric unit specialized in mental healthcare for older adults over age 55; and the Jewish Home and Senior Living Foundation.

Position OverviewThe primary role of the Director of Nursing Operations is to plan, organize, develop and direct the full spectrum of nursing operations for the Jewish Home and Rehabilitation Center (includes short term rehab, long term skilled nursing, acute geriatric psychiatry and a small clinic) in accordance with local, state and federal standards and regulations, established facility policies and procedures and as may be directed by the Administrator, CEO, and the Medical Directors, to provide appropriate care and services to the residents.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:Leadership, Financial and Nursing OperationsPlan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the overall operations of the Nursing departments, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current state and federal laws and regulations governing the skilled nursing facilities and acute hospitals.Oversee, direct and coordinate nursing staff to provide exceptional resident/patient care consistent with standard nursing practices in the skilled nursing facility, adult psychiatric unit, and patient clinics.Participate and contribute as a member of the Leadership Team.Responsible for preparing/participating in the development of the annual nursing budget and ensuring adherence to the approved budget.Participate in contract negotiation and management, as pertains to Nursing.Compliance and Regulatory RequirementsEnsure compliance with local, state and federal guidelines and regulations.Ensure the facility is trained and prepared for the annual California Department of Public Health (CDPH) survey, resulting in no preventable significant citations from CDPH.Responsible for the management of an effective elder abuse prevention and reporting program.Conduct clinical investigations and ensure timely reporting of all unusual occurrences and adverse events.Ensure adequate staffing levels allowing admissions without interruption, as well as prevention of the facility from falling below required staffing ratios.Serve as a leader for the development, implementation and maintenance of the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program and committee.Personnel Management and Education DevelopmentLead and develop a strong and cohesive Nursing Team that practices strong inter-departmental collaboration.Hold direct reports accountable for meeting our standards of nursing practices and resident care.Partner with Human Resources (HR) regarding the selection and hiring of nursing personnel.Evaluate work performance of all nursing personnel and implement discipline according to operational policies.Program, Policies and Procedures Development and ImplementationMonitor, assist and implement the infection control program in accordance with current infection control guidelines.Assist the Medical Directors in reviewing and implementing relevant clinical policies and procedures for the facility.Review facility transfers and discharges to evaluate ways to improve quality of care.Coordinate interdisciplinary approach for all Resident Care Services & program development with the team.Quality of Care and Patient SatisfactionOversee the provision of appropriate medications, treatments and general nursing services according to the resident's/patient's care plan and physician-directed orders.Outreach in relations to families regarding care concerns.Collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team, physicians, consultants, and community agencies to identify and resolve issues and improve the quality of services.Explore opportunities for integrating technological solutions into the day-to-day operations of Nursing.Other dutiesPerform other duties as assigned and may provide direct care as necessary.Acts in an administrative capacity in the absence of the Administrator.Qualifications:Current California Registered Nurse (RN) licensure and BSN required; Masters preferred.Five to Seven years of clinical work experience in skilled nursing, both post-acute rehab and long-term care environments, as a Director of Nursing.Acute care and behavioral health experience preferred.Strong knowledge of State and Federal/CMS guidelines and regulations.Experience working in a 175+ bed, CMS 4-5 Star rated skilled nursing facility.Able to demonstrate strong leadership ability and teaching skills.Able to provide direction and coordination of a multi-faceted program, including problem resolution within facility.Familiar with performance improvement methodologies (e.g. PDSA) with successful track record in implementing programs to improve clinical outcomes.Demonstrates problem-solving skills with the capacity to make quick and definitive decisions.Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.Strong communication skills (verbal and written).Self-motivated and able to work independently and work on multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment.Ability to work effectively in a deadline-oriented environment with multiple priorities.Ability to be accurate, concise, and detail-oriented.Computer proficiency including word processing, ability to use email and Internet programs, familiar with computerized data entry.Ability to sit and/or work on a computer for long periods.Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, residents and family members, and at all levels of the organization.Ability to maintain confidentiality.Joining the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living means becoming part of an organization that upholds the highest standards of care while fostering a community where older adults are valued, respected, and empowered to live with purpose and joy.
