Job Title: Director of Shareholder Engagement Job Summary:
The Director of Shareholder Engagement is responsible for leading Sealaska's Communications, Marketing and Community Outreach departments, ensuring that all engagement efforts with shareholders and descendants align with Sealaska's leadership vision. This role will craft innovative strategies to authentically connect with Sealaska shareholders and descendants, growing engagement and deepening their relationship with the corporation. The Director of Shareholder Engagement will report to the Vice President of Administration and Outreach and will oversee departmental integration, resource management and provide guidance to ensure that communications, marketing and outreach strategies are aligned for varying segments of shareholders. As a key representative of the engagement department, this position is expected to be reachable and responsive outside of regular office hours, including periodic weekends, to address shareholder needs and maintain engagement efforts.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Oversee all Shareholder Engagement staff
• Assist with recruiting, interviews, hiring; train, coach, and develop Shareholder Engagement staff.
• Oversee the daily workflow, scheduling, and overall efficiency of the department.
• Provide clear, proactive, and constructive feedback and coaching in an ongoing way; deliver timely performance evaluations.
• Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. Assist in development of departmental budget and manage programmatic initiatives with a focus on fiscal responsibility.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Develop and manage a comprehensive shareholder engagement strategy that aligns with Sealaska's overall business goals, values and leadership objectives.
• Oversee the Communications, Marketing and Community Outreach departments, ensuring they work cohesively to engage shareholders effectively and efficiently.
• Utilize shareholder and community demographics to determine marketing and communication strategies for various segments of our shareholder population.
• Develop a comprehensive internal communications strategy that aligns with our corporate communications and marketing strategic plan.
• Act as a point of contact for engagement with shareholders, tribes and community partners, fostering meaningful relationships and collaboration.
• Help plan, budget and coordinate shareholder events, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and maximizing shareholder participation.
• Lead and mentor team members across the Communications, Marketing and Community Outreach departments, supporting their professional growth and ensuring consistent messaging and strategy.
• Monitor and measure the effectiveness of engagement programs, using data-driven approaches to improve future initiatives.
• Manage external vendors, contractors and stakeholders to ensure project timelines and budgets are met.
• Ensure alignment between engagement efforts and corporate communications such as Sealaska's annual proxy and community newsletters.
• Travel regularly to shareholder communities, representing Sealaska and strengthening relationships with key community partners.
• Collaborate with internal teams to promote Sealaska programs and initiatives, ensuring shareholders are informed and engaged in all Sealaska-driven efforts.
• Provide regular updates and strategic reports to Sealaska leadership on engagement progress and areas for improvement.
• Support media efforts and manage publications related to shareholder and community engagement, such as photography, videography and event documentation.
• The position may require occasional after-hour call/events to address shareholder needs and maintain engagement efforts.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Strong interpersonal skills, capable of building productive partnerships with shareholders, community organizations and internal/external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams, including Communications, Marketing and Outreach.
• Excellent project management skills, with the ability to budget, plan and execute shareholder events and initiatives.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to adapt to new software as required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively and work under pressure.
• Familiarity with Alaska Native communities and culture, with a strong preference for Sealaska shareholders, descendants or spouses.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration or a related field required. MBA preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in communications, marketing, community outreach or related fields.
• Experience managing cross-functional teams and working within Alaska Native corporations or similar environments preferred.
• Proven experience in shareholder or community engagement initiatives.

Physical Demands:
• This is a full-time position based in Juneau, Alaska.
• Regular travel is required, approximately 30-35% of the time. Travel may involve various transportation modes, including airplanes, floatplanes, ferries and cars, depending on the destination.
• The physical demands include working in an office setting with occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 40 pounds.
• The role requires availability outside of regular business hours, including weekends, as a representative of Sealaska's engagement efforts.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
