Position Summary The mission of the Office of Youth Ministry is to equip leaders with the necessary tools, training, formation, and events in order that all young people hear the Gospel message and be empowered to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our parishes and in our world. The Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for executing the mission of the Office of Youth Ministry and supporting a vision for sustainable youth ministry for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. The Director oversees and supports a full-time staff, summer Totus Tuus missionaries, and summer event interns to carry out this mission through various trainings and events. The Director builds a culture of youth ministries through maintaining key relationships within the Curia and with national youth apostolate. Duties & Responsibilities In order to carry out the OYM's mission, the Director's role includes: Overseeing event execution and writing office and event budgets, including but not limited to Steubenville, Totus Tuus, Youth Leader Retreat, training days and Catholic Scouting. Team leadership including holding weekly staff meetings, visioning and goal setting, while maintaining expectations for office output, employee conduct and office culture for the other employees of the OYM. Training employees and interns and providing opportunities for professional development. Serving as the Conference Partner for the Steubenville Youth Conferences and maintaining year-round relationships with Franciscan University. Sitting on the Child Safety Committee and maintaining the Youth Ministry Handbook, publishing revisions as needed Assisting youth ministers and priests if any safe environment or safety concerns arise. This could include assisting through phone calls, emails, or in person visits and advising on response methods and next steps Knowledge & Experience Requirements This individual must have completed a bachelor's degree, master's preferred. Previous youth ministry experience is required. Previous event-management and personnel management necessary. A strong working knowledge of basic PC skills and Microsoft Office programs Strong communication, administrative, leadership, and organizational skills needed. The ability to personally live out and convey Church teaching. Must possess strong public speaking and group facilitation skills. Skills & Attitudes Required for Success in Job Be a practicing Catholic in good standing with Church teaching and have a dedicated prayer life. Have a heart for youth, be independent, self-motivated, hard-working and trustworthy. Have excellent written and oral communication skills. Be self-motivated and a good steward of Archdiocesan resources. Have the ability to interview, hire, and supervise others and mobilize interns and volunteers. Be able to handle occasional times of long hours/high pressure leading up to and during events. Travel will be required for certain events. The Director must be able to delegate tasks and responsibilities without giving up ultimate responsibility for the results. Relationship Requirements The Director must be comfortable maintaining relationships with Curia leadership, priests, youth ministers, campus ministers, scout leaders, volunteers, youth, and other parish and vicariate personnel. The Director must be comfortable in leading a team and working with other directors in the Department of Parish Mission and Vitality.
