As the Payroll Transformation Lead, you will be a key member of our HR leadership team, work closely with and report to the Leader of HR, who is the Sponsor of the transformation. You will also partner closely with leadership in related functions such as Finance, Benefits, and People Systems to develop an integrated ecosystem with all applicable payroll inputs and outputs, drive innovation, streamline processes, and enhance the overall employee experience related to payroll services. You will lead the global transformation team, encompassing a functional team and tech team.
You will serve as the global transformation leader in a multi-year effort to standardize the firm's payroll processes, streamline payroll operations worldwide and transition local payroll systems to firm-approved payroll vendors. You will define the future state of McKinsey's payroll technologies and processes, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and scalability across our global presence.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding in payroll and related tax process transformation, payroll operations background, outstanding partnership skills, a track record of executing successful large transformations in multi-national settings and is a hands-on individual.
You will set the vision, expectations and standards for the transformation overall and global transformation team. As part of this you will lead and oversee the global payroll transformation team, ensure resources are staffed and aligned to meet objectives, foster effective collaboration between the different team members and relevant stakeholders, remove roadblocks and handle escalations, hold team members accountable to impact and develop and coach team members as needed. In addition, you will convene and engage the leading stakeholders to align objectives, enable cross-functional collaboration to advance the payroll transformation and make strategic decisions as needed.
As part of the transformation you will lead a global payroll review, which will include an audit of the ecosystem that currently supports payroll, identifying current payroll pain points throughout the process and leading to implementation of an approved model. Following that you will drive the global payroll approach and design considering local legal and tax requirements, ensure all payroll processes are accounted for and digitized for a closed loop process, including but not limited to compensation, leaves and absences, benefits, and deductions and lead the process of onboarding new vendors as needed and integrate the various systems involved in payroll delivery.
You will be responsible for:
* clearly defining the operating model with respect to roles and responsibilities across functions; ensuring clear separation of duties related to data inputs (HR, Compensation, Benefits, Finance) and payroll processing (Global Payroll Team);
* setting clear expectations and standards for risk mitigation, data management, user experience, and service levels; leading the creation of strategies to continue improving on these standards through steady state, including business continuity plans, robust data management practices, including data quality controls and security measures to protect sensitive employee information;
* establishing metrics and KPIs to measure the effectiveness during implementation and steady state, provide regular reports and insights to senior leadership.
* Bachelor's degree in human resources, finance, business administration, or a related field and excellent academic record required; master's degree preferred
* 10+ years experience in project management and/or project implementation in the context of leading complex transformations requiring aligning senior stakeholders; experience in McKinsey's People Function and Systems is highly valued
* Experience in building cross-functional and global teams and leading them to achieve results and long-lasting impact
* Extensive network across McKinsey & Company and demonstrated experience in building trust-based relationships with stakeholders
* Ability to simplify complex or ambiguous issues and guide others to resolution
* Highly effective communicator with strong personal presence and credibility; adept at engaging with all types of audiences and influencing them to common agreement
* Ability to apply mature judgment on complex, cross-functional issues
* Analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions
* Extensive knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, systems and solutions across different countries
