About the position: The Transport, Logistics, and Automotive (TLA) sector within ING Wholesale Banking has the mandate to develop wholesale banking business for ING across the TLA sectors globally. The sector team is responsible for developing business with clients in these sectors by providing wholesale banking solutions including financing, advisory services, financial market solutions, transaction services and other products & services to clients through its teams based in Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Americas. In the Americas region, the team is based in New York.
We are seeking to recruit a senior and seasoned TLA sector banker with well-established client relationships in the Container Leasing and Land Transport sub-sectors as we look to building out the TLA sector business. This banker will be a self-starter and work closely with existing team members and with other product and sector teams within the organization. Experience and relationships in other sub-sectors such as Automotive, Shipping, and Aviation will be a plus.
The role requires an experienced banker who can work with little or no supervision. We are responsible for sector client coverage, leading debt financings for our clients which can often be structured and complex and coordinating all cross-buy efforts on other products. Prior TLA sector experience, a good credit grounding, and a knowledge of other wholesale banking products is essential. Given the seniority of the role, the individual would be expected to have the capability, experience, and gravitas to engage at the C-suite level with clients, be the deal team leader on transactions as required, coordinate with other stakeholders, and contribute effectively to the growth strategy for the sector / region.
Responsibilities : The successful candidate is expected to formulate client strategy and develop / manage client and / or sponsor relationships in the TLA sector with an emphasis on the Container Leasing, Rail Transport, and broader Land Transport sub-sectors, working with other team members, including product specialists, country coverage bankers and other stakeholders to help with the origination of new business with clients, ongoing client relationship management, leading new deals including financings and monitoring / maintaining existing portfolio. The work envisaged encompasses leading origination efforts, assisting with deal structuring, credit analysis, taking a leadership role and guiding deal team members, leading the internal approval process and legal documentation as required, and coordinating with relevant product teams to deliver multi-product solutions to clients and achieving cross-buy and return objectives.
Experience and relationships in other sub-sectors such as Automotive, Shipping, and Aviation will be a plus.
Identification, development, and maintenance of close relationships with clients as the primary contact. Coordinating the development of presentation material and pitches to clients leading to new mandates.
Helping achieve sector income, fee, cross-buy, ESG and return targets, and achieving other financial / non-financial KPIs.
Providing direction and leadership to deal teams including ensuring efficient allocation of resources and support in execution. Overseeing client marketing and transaction origination & execution, taking a lead role when required.
Identify and monitor developments and opportunities within the Americas TLA sector. Continuously build knowledge on the sector, competitors, products, and macroeconomic trends / issues and contribute to ING strategic initiatives.
Ongoing coaching and mentoring to team members, ensuring proactive performance and personal development to instill a strong performance culture and help achieve results.
Qualifications and Competencies Graduate or post-graduate degree holder in Business / Finance / Economics or other relevant disciplines
Minimum of 15 years of corporate / investment banking experience (or other relevant field)
Thought leader in the TLA sector(s) with deep, established client and sponsor relationships in the US / Americas
Experience in structuring and deal execution in TLA transactions in corporate / investment banking
Sound knowledge of credit, financial models, and loans documentation
Ability to train and develop junior talent
Solid track record in origination and cross-selling other products like financial markets, DCM, M&A advisory and transaction services
Strong analytical, presentation, leadership, and communication skills.
An effective team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
High level of self-motivation.
