Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit: The Office of Research Integrity provides oversight, education, and guidance on: Ethical conduct of human and animal research Responsible for conduct of research Biosafety Federal and state regulations Export control and international travel or collaboration policies External professional activities for pay Conflicts of interest Position Summary: The Director of Research Integrity is responsible for providing clarity in research integrity policies and procedures that promote research. Ensuring that research integrity policies and educational programs promote both a culture of innovation and collaboration on the University of North Carolina at Greensboro campus. Providing service and resources in areas of research integrity that enhance research, teaching, and other creative endeavors. Engagement with committees across campus that intersect with the ORI. This position is responsible for oversight of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Conflicts of Interest (COI), Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) and serves as the Research Integrity Officer (RIO). Minimum Qualifications: PhD or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including a Masters and 3 years of experience, in a scientific, regulatory or policy field. Demonstrated experience in policy development, interpretation, analysis, and implementation of policies. Demonstrated experience in the review and interpretation of federal regulations and application of determinations. A minimum of 7 years experience in working with federal regulations and compliance in the area of research. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to work effectively at all levels in a university setting and as a team member. Ability to approach problems and decisions analytically. Background in managing complex university compliance issues. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in personnel management. Recruitment Range: Commensurate with Experience

Key Responsibility: Research Integrity
Essential Tasks: Provide UNCG coordination and monitoring of all aspects of research compliance conducted by UNCG faculty, staff, and students as well as affiliates. Oversee UNCG research compliance through the management of areas of human research subjects, animal research, radioactive materials or radiation emitting instruments, and use of biohazardous materials on campus. Schedule and direct regular meetings of Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institution for Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Bio-Safety Committee (IBC) and work with EHS on related committees. Develop and provide compliance training in programs for faculty, staff, and students as needed. Manage oversight of research misconduct investigations, and lead inquiry and investigation committees. Coordinate and maintain sequestration of data and equipment. Utilize plagiarism checking software and other resources as needed for investigations. Maintain federal reporting requirements with the federal Office of Research Integrity (ORI). Percentage Of Time: 20%
Key Responsibility: Export Control
Essential Tasks: Establish and manage an export control program for the University. Ensure compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) requirements, and the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR). Serve as official University contact and liaison between University and federal agencies as needed. Work closely with Vice Chancellor for Research and Engagement, Directors of the Office of Sponsored Programs, University Department heads, deans, and faculty in the management of export controls and travel requirements for embargoed and sanctioned countries. Development and implementation of training programs related to export controls. Percentage Of Time: 25%
Key Responsibility: Conflict of Interest
Essential Tasks: Oversee University Conflict of Interest (COI) program for the university, including education, policy development and audit activities. Ensure University compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and University policies and procedures, manage daily activities related to COI in research. Oversee and manage annual COI disclosures working with departments and supervisors to ensure compliance across campus. Review COI disclosures related to research activities and identify conflicts that may need oversight & management. Utilize electronic systems to manage and monitor campus-wide annual disclosures, research-based COI disclosures, management plans and maintain documents. Work with other campus units to develop processes to manage federal regulations addressing foreign influence. Percentage Of Time: 15%
Key Responsibility: Animal Facility
Essential Tasks: Oversee Animal Facility through coordination and oversight of the facility manager and her staff. Work with veterinarian to ensure compliance and well-being of research animals. Work with IACUC committee as needed in the review and approval of protocols, site inspections, and program reviews. Maintain federal reporting requirements. Percentage Of Time: 10%
Key Responsibility: Supervision and other duties
Essential Tasks: Oversee ORI staff as well as Animal Facility staff. Work with staff to build relationships with various individuals/organizations to aid in the effort of advancing and improving research compliance. Interface with other units on campus (e.g., international programs, HR, legal counsel) on issues that cut across multiple units (e.g., conflict of interest). Other duties as assigned. Physical Effort: Hand Movement-Repetitive Motions, Reading, Writing, Hearing, Talking, Lifting-0-30 lbs.
